HC: Tell us a little bit about your work with fashion.

JK: I have always had a passion for fashion, I know that’s cliché. I hope to have a career in fashion business (coordinating fashion shows, public relations for designers/celebrities.) When I was a kid I used to draw outfits and began sewing classes. I went to private school for 14 years so when I was able to dress outside of my uniform I liked taking risks and experimenting with my style since I wasn’t able to do that often.

HC: How did you get involved?

JK:  I got involved in Her Campus after meeting my roommate Shruti. We were up late one night talking about what we liked and wanted to do and I told her about how I liked fashion and everything. She recommended me joining her campus because there were several things related to fashion that I could write about and participate in.

HC: What has your favorite part been so far?

JK: My favorite part thus far has been attending College Fashion Week.

HC: What are some of the things you’ve done within the industry?

JK: My first fashion affiliated experience was taking a trip with one of my good friends to New York City to tour colleges and while we were there we went to Mood Fabric store featured on Project Runway. We each chose a fabric that we liked and mainly wanted the “Thank you Mood, T-Shirt.” We then brought the fabric to our sewing class and each made something (I made a pillow case.)

My most recent fashion affiliated experience was attending College Fashion Week.

HC: Tell us about your experience at College Fashion Week?

JK:  I had the time of my life at College Fashion Week. I had never been to a real fashion show, granted I had put on many fashion shows for my family, this was my first official fashion show. I was so excited, the whole experience was amazing, the space was chic and it was actually perfect weather in Boston that evening. I tried to take advantage of all of the sponsor stations. I enjoyed the musical performances and it also made me admire the efforts that Her Campus put to not only show clothes but really put together an entire evening event for us. It was a memorable night, I even took advantage of one of the sponsors initials being the same as my roommates, MG. They had huge M and G balloons and as everyone was cleaning up, I figured Id take the balloons off their hands and give them to my roommate! We lost the M but the G still remains in our living room :)

HC: How does your business background help you in this field?

JK: I feel like I am more interested in the business part of Fashion rather than the actual mechanics, like drawing and sewing. I hope that my background in business will allow me to provide unique skills to a fashion company in the future and allowing to help that company grow!
