James Charles, Cover Girl’s First Cover Boy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

CoverGirl broke the gender norm for makeup right open this week as they signed their first ever male representative. Now you may recognize James Charles, the 17-year-old high school senior from Bethlehem, N.Y. from elsewhere as the teen recently found himself in the spotlight due to his breathtaking senior photos that spoke to all of us. James retook his senior photos in order to show off his perfect highlighter that we all wish we could achieve.

Meanwhile we’re here like

James also is quite well known for his popular YouTube channel where he posts makeup tutorials from achieving flawless fake freckles to glitzy glittery eye looks.

But it is not James’s near perfect makeup skills that makes us love him and CoverGirl’s decision, but his bravery in the face of much hate. Some of the new CoverBoy’s less than glamorous opponents argue that makeup isn’t for boys and therefore CoverGirl should revoke their contract with James.

We believe in a different side. Congrats to you James Charles for proving that just because you’re a certain gender does not mean you must conform yourself to the norms that come along with that label. Makeup is an art form. Art crosses all gender norms and does not confine to any mold. James Charles is simply an artist representing his work on a world stage. There’s also a thank you due to CoverGirl for supporting and vying for the freedom to wear makeup as you please, regardless of gender.

So once again, we love you James Charles! Continue to slay with your razor sharp winged eyeliner and chiseled eyebrows, we envy you on a deep level.
