How To Maximize Your Dorm Space

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Let’s be honest, our dorms are small. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a large quad to live in. Here are some floor plans designed on Google Sketchup to provide you with ideas to make the most out of your dorm space!

  1. The Double- This double has the beds located on the wall opposite the closet. Both beds have the dressers located underneath and the desk located in the front of the beds. Organizing the furniture this way takes up less floor space. Having the dresser under the bed is a really good organizational strategy because it keeps a huge piece of furniture hidden and still leaves a lot of room for added storage.
  2. This double has a different layout to it. This set up spreads out the furniture more, but along the sides, allowing for more space in the middle of the room. This setup leaves all of the room under the bed for additional storage. Having the dresser located next to the desk adds additional counter space that could be used for holding a TV, Keurig, etc.
  3. The Triple- Stuck in a forced triple? This floor plan is a really great way to organize your room! The bunk bed is located on the wall opposite the door and the single bed is located on the same wall as the door. two of the dressers are located under the single bed and the other is located next to one of the desks. This set up provides a lot of space to move around the room.
  4. Single- For those of you who are RAs or live in a townhouse, this is one way you can set up your single! The bed is located in the corner on the wall opposite the one with the door. The desk and dresser are located side by side across from the bed. The bed in this example is raised to provide additional storage space underneath, but can also be lowered if you choose.
