The Her Campus Bryant staff did a survey and found that guys actually check girls out at the gym! Not the result we were hoping for. Who wants to think about looks when they’re trying to get perfect abs?! But don’t worry because we have created a list of things to do to feel and look good while you’re working out.
- Grab a towel at the desk on the first floor of the gym. The towels are free! Just have your student I.D. and you can check one out. Keep it handy while on the treadmill or doing crunches for when you get a little sweaty.
- Wear clothes that fit! Don’t wear clothes that are too tight or too baggy. If you wear shorts, specifically spandex, make sure it’s not cutting you off at the waist or thigh. Try to wear a shirt that is fitting because you want to show off your curves, which guys love. Look for breathable materials when picking out shirts to wear and especially don’t wear a shirt so long it looks like you aren’t wearing shorts. And when wearing a fitting shirt, buy a sports bra with a little support to make your curves perkier. Also, wear ankle socks, which make your legs look longer.
-
Keep colors simple and few. You don’t want to clas
h the colors of your outfit or have too many different colors on at once. Make sure to avoid light grey and white shirts, which can show armpit sweat and can even be stained yellow.
- Wear minimal makeup. Face it, you’re going to sweat at the gym and your makeup is most likely going to look caked and smudged by the end of your workout. So avoid liquid foundation, powder if anything, and keep eyeliner and mascara to a minimum. Anything else: don’t even think about it.
- Keep your hair in a ponytail, braid or bun. This way the hair is off your body, and not sticking to your face or neck. To be more stylish, you can add a headband or other hair accessory, but keep it gym appropriate (meaning no huge bows or sequins). Play up the hairstyle adding braids to the ponytail or bun, or doing a chignon bun, but remember to secure the style well.
-
Avoid foods that make you bloat, such as anything with salt in it, carbonated drinks, artificial sweetener, chewing gum (you swallow air as you chew), and limit beans and gassy vegetables. Eating more fiber, yogurt, and avocado can reduce bloating and flatten your stomach, making you look more
lean at the gym!
- Drink water BEFORE and during your workout. This will help you from looking red from getting heated while you exercise. The redness is from your body moving blood closer to the surface of your skin to release heat, and staying hydrated will help keep your body cool
