H&M Launches Maison Margiela Collection

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Ever since the H&M and Maison Martin Margiela collaboration was announced five months ago fashionistas around the world have been waiting for the collection to arrive – and it is finally here. Last night H&M celebrated the launch of the new collaboration at the Temple Court Building in New York’s financial district. H&M took over all nine floors of the historical building and on each floor had an artistic display of the clothes. Famed artists, including choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, put on displays that showed the clothes in a reinterpreted light.

Over the last few year H&M has gained a reputation for their collaborations with high fashion designers. One thing the retail giant manages to achieve with every collboration is affordable clothing and high fashion art withough sacrificng qulaity. When H&M launched their collaboration with Versace the clothes looked like pieces you would find on a Vercace runway. Simarly, the satorial vision for the H&M and Margiela collection, stayed true to the Belgian fashion house’s sculptured silhouettes and avant-garde designs.

The party was attended by prominent “Fashion People” – everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Chace Crawford (I guess being in Gossip Girl makes him fahsionable) to Kanye West was there. The celebrities and influential fashion industry insiders all showed up in looks from the Margiela collection.

It’s safe to say that this collection is for the brave hearted fashionista/os. Every piece in the 100 piece collection boasts Margiela’s signature contemporary avant-garde look. The collection includes oversized assymetrical feature, plexi glass wedge boots, and candy wrapper clutches among other offerings. But that will not stop the collection from selling it out when it launches in 230 H&M stores on November 15, 2012.

According to attendees, Kanye West’s famous line from his hit song Paris with Jay Z, “What’s that jacket Margiela?” was used throughout the night. For the Record, the rapper did show up all smiles in a Margiela jacket.
