               With Up ‘Til Dawn for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this Friday 12 am to 6 am, Her Campus wanted to share some facts about the hospital. Here’s why Her Campus stays up for good!

Families do not pay for anything when receiving care at St. Jude! Not even for food, travel, or housing. All they need to worry about is getting their child better! This results in a daily operating cost of $2 million, and this is funded primarily by individual contributions.

Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped increase the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to over 80% since 1962!

St. Jude was founded by entertainer Danny Thomas who believed that “No child should die in the dawn of life”.

St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for some of the most aggressive childhood cancers.

All research and breakthroughs made at St. Jude are shared with doctors and scientists worldwide, helping save children across the globe. In fact, St. Jude published 775 articles in 2012 – that’s a new discovery every 11 hours!

On average, St. Jude has more than 67,000 patients each year! Patients have come from all 50 states and even from around the world.

St. Jude has helped increase the survival rates for acute lymphoblastic leukemia from 4% before 1962 to 94% today! Treatments developed at St. Jude aim to reduce side effects and improve effectiveness, so that survivors can have the best long-term health.
