There are many women who have faced violent situations and remained silent, there are many that have spoken out. Daughters are raised to learn to protect themselves and be on edge when observing their surroundings. This is the sad reality of living in a world with men. “Estimates published by WHO indicate that globally about 1 in 3 (30%) of women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime” (Violence Against Women). This is a significant number and means that even if you as an individual have not experienced this type of violence it is probable that women close to you have experienced it.

Being pregnant in general is dangerous and undergoing childbirth puts many women at risk. Minority women have significantly more complications due to discrimination from health care professionals. When they say they need help or care, they are often brushed aside and not cared for in the same urgency someone else may receive. Women also face discrimination in their workplace, social environments, and even family units. There are pressures from society to look and act in favorable ways that please the masses.

Women are put at disadvantages because they are put in these situations and must face the harsh reality that men do not tend to think about. Women’s history month reminds us just how persevering we are. There is much progress to be made, but it is beautiful how strong we remain.

Remember to be safe, but also don’t be afraid to live your life to your fullest. You are the one in control of your life, you have the power.
