Name: Kelly DeRoche
Major/Graduation Year: Marketing, 2015
Hometown: Medfield, MA

HC: Congratulations on your team winning the Business 101 Target Ad Competition! Were you expecting to win?

KD: We always talked about winning, but mostly just to be optimistic. We did work really hard, but I don’t think any of us expected to win the competition.

HC: What was your winning Target advertisement idea?

KD: Our ad started out with a guy who just got out of the shower and is holding all of his shower stuff. When he walks into the hallway, he drops everything because he is holding too much. Then, his towel falls in front of a group of girls. Then a guy says, “You should’ve gotten a shower caddy,” and a voiceover says, “You wouldn’t want to be this guy. For all your back to school shopping, go to Target.”

HC: What a creative and funny idea! So, what has been your favorite moment with your business team so far this semester?

KD: My favorite moment was probably winning. It just felt good that all our hard work and time paid off and it brought us together as a group. My other favorite moments all happened during filming. It was really funny to plan out and film the commercial.

HC: What are you planning to do with your prize money?

KD: Personally, I plan to use the prize money to buy a concert ticket to the Bamboozle Festival in NJ this summer!

HC: Sounds fun! What advice would you give to future Target competitors?

KD: I would say that you should get started quick, use your resources, and collaborate with your group members. Everyone in your group has strengths so if you talk about it and figure out who would be best at what part of the project, it will fall together very nicely. Also, good luck!
