The Bryant Players President: Allie Spica

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

If your first question about the  “Bryant Players” is to ask if they are the school band, it is time to listen up. The Bryant Players are a group of students dedicated to putting on and performing in AMAZING productions at our school. They focus on art, which isn’t too common here at Bryant. The Players are definitely not a  new club on campus, but they are now really making their voices heard. The Players area a force to be reckoned with, they do not shy away from controversial topics, while also performing popular musicals. In the past they’ve performed Legally Blonde, Chicago, and Little Shop of Horrors. This year The Players will be taking on Grease with an absolutely electric cast.

Name: Allie Spica

Graduation Year: 2018

Major/Minor: Communications/ Marketing

Hometown: Granby, CT

HC: How long have you been a part of the Bryant Players?

AS: I have been apart of the Bryant Players since my freshman year, which started in 2014. I have previously served as the club’s secretary, and I am the current president.

HC: What are your other involvements on campus?

AS: I am also apart of the Bryant Improv Troupe, and I am a sister of Alpha Omicron Pi!

HC: What has been your favorite on stage role so far in your college career?

AS: So far, my favorite character to play has been the role of Mother in How I Learned to Drive.  I am very used to playing the comedic relief in shows, which this role was, but she was also extremely complex. This was a role that really challenged me as an actor and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

HC: Do you have any upcoming projects/shows coming up that the club is excited for?

AS: We are putting on Grease! Currently, the cast and crew is working really hard on putting on the best production possible. We are extremely excited and want everyone to come out!

HC: What is something that sticks out to you about the cast of Grease?

AS: The connection that the cast has. Outside of rehearsal, everyone is friends. There is so much chemistry on the stage because everyone is so comfortable with each other. As well, everyone is really devoted to making this production possible. They come to rehearsal ready to work, and with ideas that they think can make the production that much better. Truly, this cast is one of the best that I have had the pleasure of working with.

HC: What is your favorite part about being the president of the Bryant Players?

AS: My favorite part about being Bryant Players president is getting to see our productions from every angle.  My job allows me not only to be connected with the cast, but also with Tech, Marketing, Hair and Make-Up and so much more. Being so involved allows me to see each person use their individual talents, and have each working piece come together to be a great production.

HC: What makes the Bryant Players a unique club?

AS: Bryant Players are a club that welcomes everyone. We have people who do every single show, or people who want to do just one. We have members that are involved in Greek Life, Ambassadors, Bottom Line, BIT, just to name a few. Whether you want to just act, or just sing, or just dance, you have a role in the Players.

HC: What is your vision for the club?

AS: My vision for the club is to become a well respected organization on campus. At a business school, it is hard for the arts to be recognized, and I want the Bryant Players to show how important the Arts are to our community. Theatre is something where there is no experience needed, really anyone if they want to can participate in some way. The goal for the Bryant Players is to be a professional theatre group and get more students involved in the Arts.

HC: If money and talent were unlimited at Bryant, what would be your musical and play to put on?

AS: My dream would be to do Wicked or Mamma Mia. My dream play would be Peter and the Starcatcher.

HC: When is The Bryant Player’s production of Grease?
