Her Campus: When did you graduate Bryant and what did you major/minor in?
Leo Colgan: I graduated from Bryant University in May 2011. I majored in marketing and double minored in legal studies and international affairs. Â
HC: What clubs/organizations were you involved in at Bryant?Â
LC: While I was a registered member of quite a few clubs on campus, most of my time was spent with my fraternity, Delta Chi. The major position I held was Philanthropy Chairman. I enjoyed this position because it wasn’t just a figurehead position to put on my resume, I actually got to accomplish things and help out charities.Â
HC: In what ways have they helped you since graduation?
LC: Delta Chi provided me with an environment that nourished my understanding of applying business concepts to the real world. It also introduced me to a large network of people. I am currently starting a company with three of my pledge brothers.Â
HC: What are you doing now?
LC: I am currently working full-time for my parents’ company, Northeast Contractors Supply. I run the sales and marketing portion, but most of my time lately is spent overseeing day to day operations. After I get out of work, I spend my evenings training for mixed martial arts fighting at Underdog BJJ in Hartford, CT. I also recently started up a company, Fratmerica, with three of my pledge brothers. The website is currently under construction, but we actively update our Facebook with new columns about the life of the fraternity man.
HC: Did what you major/minored in help you with what you’ve done after graduation?
LC: Yes. Marketing is a great major for understanding overall business strategy, if you can apply your knowledge to a broad range of situations. Properly selecting a target market and building the right brand image will make a business much more profitable. However, when I go for my MBA I think I’ll study finance because I’d like to get better at analyzing the financial performance/projections for companies. Â
HC: How has Bryant helped you start Fratmerica?
LC: My time spent with Delta Chi at Bryant helped provide me with all of the ideas I have now. When Mook and I graduated, we had a lot of ideas and weren’t sure how to implement them. Fratmerica is the step in profitably implementing these ideas. Â
HC: What are the things you miss most about being a student at Bryant?
LC: I miss the overall lifestyle. My parents weren’t around to yell at me. Even though my roommates and I usually had dirty common areas, they were a lot of fun. I’m pretty sure they thought about condemning our townhouse after we moved out. I also miss the whole classroom portion of college as well. It really hit me when I was recently taking a prep course for the GMAT exam. I was sitting in the classroom and I realized how much I missed going to class every day.  Â
