8 Super Easy DIY Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Every year, shopping for Halloween costumes has become a serious struggle. For many colleges, Halloween is not one but at least two or three nights. Who really has the money to spend $50 per costume just to wear it once? Fear not ladies, for we have found really easy do-it-yourself costumes that won’t require you to dig deep into your wallet!

1. Toddlers and Tiaras

If you were looking for a reason to wear a cute tutu for Halloween, this is it. All this costume requires is a tutu, t-shirt, a pacifier, and a short trip to the craft store. A tutu can be either bought at an inexpensive store, like Claire’s, or can be made with ribbon or tissue paper. The sash can be made out of ribbon and you can use fabric paint for the letters. If you want to be really fancy with it, you can even use iron-on letters. Tiaras can be bought in the children’s sections of stores, dollar stores, etc. Optional: socks with lace on the ends paired with heels (just like little girls dress in beauty pageants).

2. Victoria’s Secret Angels

Photo CreditThis is probably one of the simplest outfits to create yourself. All you have to do is get your hands on a silk bathrobe! This can be worn with a sexy bra exposed underneath. Shorts/spandex can be worn as well (just in case the robe accidentally unties). To top off the look, curl your hair with a large-barreled curling iron or wand for those bombshell curls!

3. Risky Business

Photo CreditThis classic Halloween costume is extremely easy to recreate! Step one, find a boyfriend or guy friend and borrow a white dress shirt from. Once you have completed this step you are already halfway there! Next, get some mid-calf socks and black sunglasses and you are all set for the 31st!

4. Loofah Photo CreditThis silly idea of a costume is starting to become more mainstream. Take a trip to Michael’s craft and stock up on tulle ribbon. Glue this to a strapless dress and attach a white piece of rope and the outfit is complete! This is also a great group costume idea. You and your friends can each be a different colored loofah.

5. Mermaid Photo CreditThis costume takes a little more time and craftiness, but can still be done on a budget. Find a plain bra and design it with glitter, beads, shells, and pearls. This piece can be paired with a green or blue skirt, wrap, or shorts.

6. Tiger Photo CreditThis is not your basic cat. Look original amongst the other cat costumes by being a tiger. Just purchase some cat ears and body makeup. Find a friend to spray your arms and legs in orange and paint on black stripes. This sexy costume is effortless to make and will definitely grab everyone’s attention!

7. Bunny Photo CreditYou don’t have to be Elle Woods to pull off a hot bunny costume! Take a trip to a local dance store or search on Amazon for a body suit. Pair the body suit with tights and bunny ears – now you are now a bunny! For an optional detail, you can add the collar and bow tie around your neck. There are many different color options for this costume, so don’t worry, odds are you won’t find yourself accidentally twinning with another bunny!

8. Audrey Hepburn Photo CreditDon’t know how to style that new LBD? Here’s your chance! Pair a black dress with pearls, a tiara, long black gloves, and heels and you can be Audrey Hepburn for the night. These accessories can all be found on Amazon, Etsy, at Claire’s or vintage costume jewelry stores.
