Her Campus Bryant is here to put a new spin on your Halloween plans this year. Campus will be buzzing with costume parties, so how will you make yours stand out? We threw together a list of the five Halloween parties you and your guests will never forget!
1. The classics
Halloween is supposed to be about being scary, so throw a “classics” party. Bring out the witch hats and the vampire teeth to celebrate Halloween the right way. Grab a roll of gauze and wrap yourself up like a mummy- it’s also an awesome way to stay warm! You can get a little more creative like Cady Heron did when she showed up to the party as an “ex-wife” in Mean Girls, instead of the traditional corpse bride. You and your friends will have a blast doing each others makeup and looking as scary as possible. Between mummies, skeletons, and ghosts everyone will be jumping out of their boots!
2. Who did it murder party
Plan a party with a twist! Assign everyone roles ahead of time in order to pull off the greatest murder mystery since last time you played Clue. You can have your guests walk straight into anything from a scene from The Great Gatsby to a Vegas casino. By the end of the night the game often includes other plots, and everyone becomes involved in an evening of scheming, plotting and blackmailing each other. It’s a great way to mix things up and meet new people, and maybe give you an excuse to talk to that cute boy you’ve been eyeing. 3. Dress like your alter ego
Whether you’ve figured yours out yet or not, everyone has an alter ego. Some might like to channel their inner belly dancer like Shakira and others might be tempted to go as a punk rock chick. This is a perfect opportunity for everyone to live out their own Sasha Fierce for a night. You have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone for the tradeoff of finally having the opportunity to satisfy your long hidden fantasy of being someone you are totally not.
4. Character themed
Have you always idolized a certain fictional character? Maybe it’s a cartoon you grew up watching, or a superhero from your favorite comic book series. You’re not alone- everyone has a fictional persona that they are dying to dress up as. Hosting a character themed party gives you and your friends the chance to recreate a classic character and put a new spin on it. Some of our favorite ideas are the cast of Rocket Power, The Avengers superheroes, Spongebob, Mean Girls, the wizards in Harry Potter or The Hunger Games crew. The options are endless!
5. The 90’s
Twelve years later, the 90s are making a huge comeback in the lives of collegiates everywhere. Who doesn’t love reminiscing about the TV shows, fads, and style trends that we all experienced while growing up? A 90s themed party is like a blast from the past! Throw on your overalls and fanny packs and dance away the night with a bunch of boys dressed in flannels and jorts (jean-shorts). Decorate with NSYNC and Backstreet Boys posters and create a playlist of all of their 90s hits, throw some Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera into the mix too. And remember- you can never rock too many scrunchies!Â
