3 Last-Minute Costume Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

First of all, can anyone please tell us what happened to the month of October!? It feels like it was October 1st just the other day. Between exams, papers, and group work (yay midterms), the thought of Halloween has definitely been put on the backburner. But now, it is upon us, and if you’re anything like me you still haven’t even thought about your costume. The possibilities are nearly endless, but with this holiday just around the corner, time is not on our side. Below are some last-minute, easy to achieve costume ideas, known as the 3 “S’s” (sexy, spooky, sophisticated), that will have you ready for the night’s festivities in no time!

Sexy
Let’s be honest, just about any costume can be made sexy. From nerds to Disney princesses, we girls can always figure out a way to make our costumes seductive. Since we’re talking last-minute here, why not stick to the classics? A black cat, devil, and angel are all really simple to throw together. For additional costume pieces (ears, horns, and wings), just run over to the nearest Target which is right down the road. Or hey, maybe a friend has these items from the years before! Go ahead; show a little too much skin. Wear that LBD that kind of, sort of turned into a shirt when it shrunk in the wash. It’s Halloween, the one day where it’s totally acceptable to dress scandalously without all the critics judging you.

Spooky
We’ve all heard of the original spooky costumes like a vampire, Frankenstein, zombies, witches, and so forth. So why not break away from tradition, and go for a “spooky yet glamorous” look? One great costume that we’re loving this year is an evil queen. How can you assemble this costume? Easy! Try to keep in mind we’re going for a spooky, evil, even gothic-like theme here. A long, black dress and a crown from the local party store will totally complete the outfit for this costume. However, the most important aspect of this look all relies on your makeup! Below this paragraph is an ad in Sephora displaying the “evil queen” makeup look. You have to admit, that looks fashionably fearful!

Sophisticated
Ladies, it’s time to channel Audrey Hepburn’s classy style in the timeless film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. To achieve this look is quite easy, almost too easy. Despite Hepburn’s impeccable fashion sense, everyone is more than capable of showing off their elegant and sophisticated side. The first article of clothing you’ll need to have: a black dress. Make sure the black dress isn’t too revealing because remember we’re aiming for sophisticated, not sleazy. Simple enough? Thought so. Next item for this look: pearls, pearls, pearls! Hepburn has several strings of pearls draped around her neck, so try to wear a few if possible. Now unless you have a tiara and a pair of long, black gloves laying around, your best bet would be to run over to iParty (located at Lincoln Mall) to pick up these essentials. To complete the outfit, you’ll need to wear a pair of black pumps and put your hair in a top knot. Getting the perfect top knot can be a little tricky, but you can follow these quick and easy steps here!

Happy Halloween, collegiettes!
