Bryant University gives students the opportunity to live in suites their freshman year. This has got to be a blessing and a curse. You love all your roommates, but sometimes you want to kill them. There are quite a few annoying times you’ll experience living in a suite, but at the end of the day you wouldn’t change it for the world.
1. Going to sleep is impossible.
Let’s be real. Sometimes it’s nice to go to bed early to catch up on the sleep you’ve missed from the past week. Living in a suite makes this unmanageable. People are always in and out of your room at all hours of the night, and you are looked at like you have three heads if you go to bed before 12.Â
2. No one EVER changes the toilet paper rolls.
Really? Is it that hard to walk out of the stall, grab a new toilet paper roll, and plop it onto the dispenser? I didn’t think so. But for some odd reason, they always seem to be left empty and you have to call each of your suitemates until someone agrees to hand you a roll of toilet paper. Thanks guys.
3. Taking out the garbage is always a struggle.
You walk by the trash a million times a day and watch it build up until it overflows. Especially after the weekend, it tends to wreak. Yet, everyone just keeps walking by and adds to the mess, until that one brave soul steps up and heads to the sketchy trash room.Â
4. World War 3 occurs when it’s time to talk about next year’s housing situation.
Let’s face it. Bryant doesn’t help at all when it’s time to move from hall 16 to a sophomore hall. You have to go from 8 roommates to 6. Thanks ResLife. You tell the suite that it’s time to break up. Everyone fights and no one talks for at least 3 days after we all discuss our options. Eventually, we come to a dreaded decision and say our apologies.
5. Decorating the common room is the highlight of the year.
This is the good stuff. Those first few days with your new suitemates can be a little odd, so why not have a little bonding time and do some shopping for the common room. Colorful lights and fun throw pillows are a must to make your dingy suite feel like a home. Everyone adds a little bit of who they are to bring life to the suite.
6. Suite Chinese night is always something to look forward to.
Come on. We’ve all had at least one. Whether you’re stressed for midterms or just having a rough week, the fam needs to get together and bond over some unhealthy delights. Chinese food night can turn any bad day good and gives the suite special time to sit down and reflect on everyone’s day. You can never go wrong with a little Chinese food and your best friends.
7. Whenever you need a shoulder to cry on, someone is there.
No matter what happens, there is always someone to go to. You may have failed a test, broken up with your significant other, or you’re just feeling very emotional, someone will always be there that understands how you feel. It’s easy to let out your feelings when you know that you’ll always have someone that truly cares about you and wants you to be happy.
8. You never have to worry about going anywhere alone.
Whether you are headed to salmo, the lib, or even fisher, you don’t have to worry about going alone. There’s always someone in the suite that is down to hang out with you or get food. Just text the suite group chat and you’re bound to get at least 4 texts within a matter of thirty seconds. Don’t worry about a loner status when you live in a suite, you always walk as a crew.
9. Every day is a party.
No matter who’s in the suite or what you’re doing, it’s always a party. Being productive can sometimes be impossible because someone is playing music or blow drying their hair or screaming over their favorite tv show. This doesn’t matter though, you love every second in your suite because you know you’ll always be having a fun time.
10. The bonds that you form are unbreakable.
At the end of the day, you really do love each and every one of your suitemates. Take one out and the dynamic wouldn’t be the same. Each and every person has their own character and you learn love them all. Splitting apart next year hasn’t hit you yet because you don’t want to risk losing any of the bonds that you were so lucky to make this year.
