What’s in Theaters: Thoughts on Fall 2025 Movie Releases

For some reason, theaters have been filling with tons of new movies this week, which means I’ve been glued to screens. It definitely feels like I’ve watched every single must-see, so, here are my thoughts on each of the four most recently released films: Don’t worry, no spoilers here!

Wicked: For Good

I was more than excited for the sequel to Wicked, and since the first one ended, I had impatiently waited, as I’m sure many others did as well, for the release of the movie for what felt like forever. With the amount of hype coming in on this sequel, I thought it would definitely be tough to live up to, but I honestly feel like it couldn’t have been much better. The vocals are amazing, and there’s nothing not to love about Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande together. The visuals were all around amazing; the coloring, the sets, and the costumes I especially loved. The designs were so detailed and realistic and when put together with the amazing soundtrack, make for the most captivating scenes. To warn, the movie is fairly long, but I’d say it’s worth the time. For anyone who enjoyed the first film or anyone who just loves a good musical. Some of the scenes even got me shedding a tear or two. Overall, the film deserves to be seen and I could not recommend seeing it in theaters more!

Regretting You

If you like a complex romance with a touch of tragedy, this takes the cake. Regretting You was, to me, more sad and emotional than romantic at most times, but the emotional levels it hit were incredible.  It’s not just sad the whole movie, but has layers of emotions that make it unlike a typical romcom. One of my more notable takes would be that there are definitely some scenes that made me cringe a bit. I felt some secondhand embarrassment in a few shots that made it a little tough to get through. It is not a flawless storyline but I do feel like the overall concept and plot made up for it. Honestly, I liked the movie, even when the romantic plot has some awkward moments. It’s a great watch for girls night or maybe a little mother-daughter moment. The overall cuteness of the characters and their romantic plots make it a fun watch. I really did appreciate that this felt pretty unique from some things I have seen and does have some plot twists along the way!

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t

Similar to Wicked, sequels always come with high expectations. Because of all the amazing actors in the Now You See Me series, I think it’s easy to expect a lot from the new movie. The original Now You See Me films have always had that fun, chaotic feel, with endless twists and turns, so it was no surprise to me that the third installment held that same vibe. There were honestly plenty of times I was genuinely blown away by the plot changes. There are still plenty of moments that will make you really think about what happened and how it happened, which is the series specialty. I felt completely locked in the whole movie and definitely not gonna be falling asleep in this one. If you like some unexpected plot lines, action-style movies, or simply want a fun and entertaining film, this one fits that bill perfectly. This one really feels like it has something for everyone. So, whether you’ve seen the first two or are just hopping into the third, this is a story you’ll want to see unravel.

Eternity

Eternity is a movie that had already piqued my interest just by having Callum Turner in it. No surprise why. The romantic story is far from typical and takes romcom to a whole new dimension (literally). The chemistry with the cast felt insanely real like everything was actually happening organically. Miles Teller always plays the best characters, being charming, cute, and always there for some comedic relief. I think this movie stood out. Most of all it is a comedy to me, but, undeniably, has an intoxicatingly romantic theme. I doubt there are many movies similar to this one. Although it has a lot of humor, it also offered emotional depth, without making it feel too heavy. The film was refreshing, from the typical cycle of romcoms I’ve had lined up, and I will definitely be adding this to the list! If you enjoy romance, or looking for a lighthearted watch, I would highly suggest you see Eternity.

To put it simply, there are definitely a lot of new movies to see! The Apple Cinemas theater is conveniently located in the Providence Place mall, making it an easy option just off campus. So if you find yourself with some time on your hands, planning a night out, or are just looking for a little escape, try making it to the theaters to catch one of these movies while they’re still there!
