Putter Around Providence

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brown chapter.

The perfect balance of city and town, the trick to making Providence feel like home is to find the local spots that make it so special. Here are some local spots that sum up the vibe of the 02906. From gourmet restaurants to hidden coffee shops to stunning sunset views, Providence is the place to be. Along with these suggestions, simply walking around Providence and exploring yourself is highly encouraged!

Food

Providence’s vibrant food scene stretches across all taste buds. From sweet to savory, you will leave Providence full and satisfied with the inside scoop.

  • Den Den Café Asiana

With great service, a diverse menu, and great accommodations for allergies, “Den Den” on Benefit Street is a hot hub for dinner. Grab a group of friends and visit soon!

  • The Grange

The Grange, an all vegetarian and vegan-upon-request restaurant, serves wonderfully creative and tasteful dishes. The warm vibe will never disappoint. An item that usually catches the eye is their “Carrot Dog.” Don’t leave without trying their brunch and indulge in their refreshing iced coffee :)

Located right in the middle of our very own Thayer Street, this vintage-style theater provides a homey feel combined with the excitement of going out to a show.

  • Waterfire

This Providence classic is the perfect place to walk around with friends, grab some food, and partake in a town tradition! They happen every Saturday, but only for the season—so don’t miss your chance!

  • Providence Place Mall

Providence Place has a wide selection of stores, restaurants, and has a movie theater inside! You can absolutely make a day of your trip there.

Scenery

  • India Point Park

Close to the East Side of Providence, this park overlooks the water, has benches to sit, and is a prime picnic destination! Grab your books for a full day of studying, a hammock to lay in the sun, or some friends for a sports game.

  • Prospect Park

Below College Hill, this park has one of the most beautiful lookouts onto the Providence skyline. Perfect for picnics, a walk, or to study.

To Study

  • Coffee Exchange

On Wickenden Street, this coffee shop is a nice place to read, finish some homework, and meet some friends.

  • White Electric

Further downtown on Westminster Street, this local coffee shop has incredible bagels and pastries, a wall of coffee flavors, and awesome sandwich options! Great for hanging out and getting work done, given its quiet and welcoming atmosphere.

  • Sydney Providence
