Keep your relaxed summer vibe this school year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brown chapter.

School is starting up again and soon we’ll all be knee-deep in classes, exams, and papers. But let’s not let the dread of schoolwork bring down our moods coming off of an amazing summer. Below I’ve compiled a list of my top tips for relaxation and good vibes for this school year so we can all prepare ourselves for the cold weather and ahead.

  1. “Look Good Feel Good”

This is one of the truest statements for me personally. When I dress my best and feel confident in my looks, my mood reflects this. Whether it be splurging a little to buy a few new wardrobe items, or going to get a mani-pedi, or waking up a little earlier in the morning to do my hair, I always feel more put together and that helps my state of mind. Plus, I always feel better walking across the Main Green wearing a bomb a** outfit ;)

2. Make a nostalgic summer playlist

Many people have a “song of the summer” or a few songs that remind them of their fun experiences this summer. I suggest making a playlist of all the summer jams and your most listened to songs to help keep you in that feel-good summer mood. Who doesn’t love reminiscing on their summer adventures?

3. Make your dorm room feel home-like

For me, this means bringing a few of my pillows from my bed and other items from around my room at home to decorate my college dorm room. This makes my dorm feel more comfortable and cozy, but also makes me feel more at home in my room. Making my dorm room reflect my room at home makes me more relaxed about being far from home.

4. Keep up the sleep

This is a hard one because, if you’re like me, you like to sleep in during the summer. Depending on class schedules, sleeping in at school can be more difficult. But set a weekend day for yourself to catch up on sleep every week and adjust your bed-time to make sure you’re getting a good amount of zzz’s each night. A well-rested you is a more relaxed you.

5. Live out your tan days

Part of this goes back to my number 1 tip above, but I always hate to see my tan fade when I get back to school and can no longer spend every free second in the sun. So mix in those white tops to your outfit rotation and enhance that summer glow. If you have a fairer skin tone like me, go online and find a tanning lotion that works for your skin. I recommend “Isle of Paradise” vegan friendly, cruelty-free, and organic self-tanning water :)
