It’s officially October which means it’s also Halloween season! Even though October 31st is still pretty far away, it’s never too early to start getting into the spooky season spirit. A perfect way to do so is by having a Halloween movie night. Here are a few Halloween movies to watch this fall!

1. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

This movie is a Halloween classic. You will instantly get transported back to your childhood when watching this Charlie Brown special. If you don’t have a huge chunk of time, this movie is perfect because it’s only 25 minutes long. Who doesn’t have 25 minutes to watch Snoopy and Woodstock get up to some Halloween hijinks?

2. The Shining

The Shining is one of the scariest movies on this list but definitely worth the watch. However, don’t watch it alone!! A true psychological thriller, The Shining tells the story of a Colorado hotel caretaker who unravels into a murderous maniac.

3. Halloweentown

Halloweentown is another childhood classic and the perfect low key Halloween movie. There are four different Halloweentown movies; my favorite is Halloweentown High, but you can’t go wrong with any of them. All of the movies feature fun mythical creatures like trolls, witches, and gremlins!

4. Little Shop of Horrors

Little Shop of Horrors is a bit different than most of the movies on this list because it’s not only a Halloween movie but it’s also a musical. The songs are fun and super catchy. Additionally, the main story line is lighthearted as it focuses on a florist who must learn how to deal with and care for a human eating plant.

5. E.T.  Extraterrestrial

E.T. is another one of those classic childhood Halloween movies. E.T. is not particularly scary, but the alien element definitely creates a spooky undertone in the film. Plus, E.T. is adorable and so is his friendship with the main character, Elliott.

6. Ghostbusters

Who you gonna call…Ghostbusters! Another classic, Ghostbusters is the ultimate Halloween movie. This film is the perfect combination of comedy, action, and fantasy. There have been many modern remakes of this Ghostbusters, but I recommend the original 1984 version.

7. Get Out

Get Out is definitely the most critically acclaimed movie on this list. This film is a true combination of a horror movie and a psychological thriller. Jordan Peele, the writer and director of Get Out, intends to display the racially motivated anxiety that comes with being black in American through his film. Get Out will most definitely scare you and give you a new perspective on race in modern day America.
