Oh Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah! Light the menorah! Here is the story of the gracious story of Hanukkah:
Judea came under the rule of a Greek who was the King of Syria. It was the home of many Jewish people. The king would not let the Jewish people celebrate their customs and traditions. They fought against him. Eventually, they drove him out. A man named Judah, the Macabee, gathered with his friends and drove the king’s men out of the temple. The people were free and now they could celebrate their customs the way they wanted. So they cleaned up the temple and wanted to light their holy lamp which should have been kept burning all the time. But they could only find enough oil to keep it burning for one day. A miracle occurred! The oil lamp stayed lit for eight days, which was enough time to get new oil for the lamp. That day is remembered each year with an eight day celebration called the Festival of Lights on Hanukkah. To celebrate the miracle, each day of Hanukkah candles are lit in a menorah.
