Interview

  1. How did you discover Her Campus?

I discovered Her Campus by a page I liked a year ago on Facebook. I was like, “I must like that, follow that, and so much more!” Then I saw a flyer posted; there was a luncheon for Her Campus back in January. I told myself that I had to join because I’m such a feminist that words cannot describe. From there on, I became an Executive Officer, PR (Public Relations) for Her Campus and enjoy the position very much.

  1. How would you discover yourself in three words?

Imaginative, Compassionate, Punctual.

  1. What are some of your biggest accomplishments at Broward College?

I won Miss. Congeniality in the 2016 Broward College North Campus Beauty Pageant as well as this one recently in 2017. I received an award in the 2016 Student Life Awards of the James E. Evans Seahawk Spirit Award, which was a mini statue of a Seahawk; I cried tears of joy when that happened! In addition to the James E. Evans Seahawk Spirit Award, I received a  Certificate of Appreciation from Mr. Pickering (Director of Student Life at North Campus) himself for outstanding service to the Psychology Club, which  I’m the Treasurer of as well.

  1. How has your Jewish upbringing influenced you as a person?

My Jewish upbringing is very tricky. Yes, my entire family by blood is Jewish. My family is not Orthodox like being Jewish in a serious manner. My parents got divorced when I was 5 years old. From then on they started dating Gentiles (someone who is not Jewish; Catholic, Christian, etc.) My family kept traditions going and it was great, until as I got older and times became different. Even though I celebrated both the Jewish, and Christian holidays combined, I went to public school growing up, not many of my friends were Jewish so I actually felt bad to be one and just pretended to be Catholic/Christian just to fit in. Back in high school at JP Taravella High School in Coral Springs, I was in Color Guard and while everyone was praying before the big show in Christian prayers, I felt singled out and prayed in Jewish prayers which was embarrassing to me. My mom was furious. In 2014, my mom found this Orthodox Jewish organization called Yachad and from there I felt more comfortable about being Jewish.  I even went on Birthright (a free trip to Israel for Jewish people ages 18 – 26) which was breathtaking, and went to an Orthodox Jewish camp called “Camp Lavi.” Since 2014, I have become more accepting of my culture, if not very proud!

  1. If someone were to cast a celebrity as you in a movie, who would it be?

I choose Emma Watson. From the Harry Potter saga for her role as Hermione Granger and the live – action Beauty and the Beast movie for her role as Belle. When I see Emma Watson, it is like seeing a reflection of myself. Perfect blend of beauty and brains. I stand up for what I believe in and I’m such a marvelous multi – tasker. Also, our resemblances are uncanny!

  1. What are your plans after graduation from Broward College? What is your dream job?

After graduation from Broward College, I’m going to transfer to FAU (Florida Atlantic University) to reach for my Bachelor’s and or even maybe a Master’s Degree to kick – start my career once and for all. My dream job is to become a Social Worker, because I like to help people with problems they face on a daily basis. No – one should go through bad obstacles in their lives, everyone deserves to feel and be happy….ALWAYS!

  1. If you were to offer advice to incoming freshman who don’t know their major, what would it be?

It may be difficult to think that you want your future to be, because everything is not set in stone. No one else can choose but you and you alone, because you are amazing. Reach for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars!

  1. Who is your biggest inspiration in your life?

My mom. Even though she goes through obstacles in her daily life, she keeps on pushing and pushing because she is just that wonderful of a mother. Even as I was a little girl and up until now, she makes sure everything is going to be okay for myself in life.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with HC Broward! HCXO!
