Meet the Team: Nicole Sieuwnarine – Modern Day Renaissance Women

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Broward chapter.

Name: Nicole Sieuwnarine

Major and Year: Business

Hometown: Trinidad

HC Position: Event Planner

HC Broward: Thank you for being here today! I know you’re a very busy person on and off campus. Tell me a little bit about some of your many hobbies.

Nicole: Yes I have a lot going on, so I will just list them for you.  I am a notary for the State of Florida, a certified tax preparer, and a volunteer for the IRS V.I.T.A program. I have my concealed weapons permit, and I am teaching myself how to code.  Soon I will be an emergency responder. Last but not least, I am currently working towards being an Air Force reserve officer. I love Her Campus, so it has easily become one of my hobbies, along with working out and college.

HC Broward: Speaking about working out, I also know that you invest a great deal of time in your body. Three times a day to be more specific. Tell me more about your vigorous exercise routine. Where does your motivation come from?!

Nicole: I workout one to three times a day, sometimes I would wake up early in the morning and go for a run and then go to the gym, but almost every day I go to the park to walk and run. My motivation would be self improvement and, because I am joining the Airforce, I have to be in shape to handle all their requirements.

HC Broward: With so many interests, why did you choose business as your major?

Nicole: I chose business as my major because it is a degree I can utilize more. I love event planning so one day I can use my business degree and get a certificate in event planning to have my own business. I also plan to get my paralegal degree. It’s something I can use in the future.

HC Broward: So many BC students are unsure about what they want to major in. Being someone who has left the highly selective nursing program, what advice do you offer to students who are scared to commit to a major?

Nicole: Leaving the Nursing program was very emotional for me. My advice to anyone who has doubts about their major is to do what you want to do.  When I first started college and I had to pick a major, I settled on Nursing because I felt like that’s where I was pushed towards.  When I finally finished all the requirements for nursing school, I got in. My fears and doubts finally came crashing down and I realized I needed to make a decision. I chose to drop out of nursing and pursue business. Business felt more like me. After switching my major everything fell into place. I was happy and I finally felt like this was the road I was meant to go down.

HC Broward: There is a common saying that goes “Jack of all trades, master or none”. Do you think there are benefits to be interested in an array of things versus having one specialty?

Nicole: Yes, I think being interested in more than one thing is a good thing. I am interested in everything I think of. Just the other day I signed up to be a community emergency responder and I am currently volunteering for the IRS V.I.T.A program. The benefit of having a lot of interest for me means that you get experience from everything you do and learn how to interact with other people.

HC Broward: Switching gears, I can’t help but admire your continuously on point wardrobe. Any insider tips you can offer about piecing together these fabulous outfits?

Nicole: Thank you first of all, but I would say that everyone has their own unique style and you should own it. I love to put pieces together and sometimes I would spend an hour just finding something that looks good, and then spend another half an hour pairing it with a purse and shoes.  I love to dress how I feel and I love to stand out. I am an August baby and a true Leo at heart.

HC Broward: Along with your plethora of hobbies, you are Her Campus Broward’s event planning director. How did you discover Her Campus and what do you hope to achieve in this position?

Nicole: When I saw how fun Her Campus was I immediately got hooked. I went home and I went online to check it out and it was awesome. Her Campus brings girls together who are all different and being in something that supports and helps girls is a fantastic thing. Our team has a lot of great and awesome girls who are just the nicest people.  Being the event planning director gives me room to have a little bit more fun and practice my event planning skills.

Thank you for joining us today, Nicole! We are happy to have you on our team!

HCXO!
