Inner Beauty Workshop Happens At B.C.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Broward chapter.

On Tuesday March 14, an event was held in Broward College North Campus. The event was an inner beauty workshop and featured a guest speaker Golda N Wasimin.

During the lecture, Wasimin spoke about the expectations society places in women and their looks, as well as he own experiences struggling with self-image. The women who attended were encouraged to share tales of their own struggles with self-image.

The event also consisted of activities such as the women attending writing down things they liked about themselves as well as fears they’d like to let go.

During her lecture, Wasimi spoke about how her experience as a skin disease survivor made her want to help women around the country and dismantle the believes that keep them from surpassing the issues that hurt them.

The workshop was divided into two parts, with a thirty-minute break in the middle.

The event was held at the BC coffeehouse and was open to the public. Snacks and beverages were provided to all attending students. The first 20 attendants were also given a free copy of Wasimin’s book “Ugly Duckling: Overcoming Shame and finding true beauty” which details her story of overcoming a skin disorder. At the end of the event, the girls took part in an activity during which they wrote down a trait they disliked about themselves and tied it to a balloon, releasing it into the air as one to close the event.

The workshop was part of a series of events focused on empowering women during Women’s history month and was put together by Her Campus’ Broward College chapter. It will be followed by a relay race on Thursday which will happen in the Breezeway.
