Broward College Gets New Radio Segment, Partners with Her Campus Broward

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Broward chapter.

B.C. North is about to get its own radio station.Gabriel Noman from B.C. North has taken it upon himself to bring music to the students of Broward College. The originator of Heart to Art, Norman said he plans to launch the radio station, aptly named Seahawk Station after our mascot, as soon as the paperwork allows.

News of a radio station in B.C. has been unprecedented. The college boasts of The Observer, a newspaper print publication, and Her Campus, an online publication. A radio segment, however, would be a new addition to how the college connects with its students.

“I’m trying to do it for the semester.” he said in a private interview.“I wanna do it as often as I can”

Norman then went on to say he was starting the radio station as “Another platform for organizations to broadcast to the student body”

Each segment will feature music and P.S.A.s  from various clubs such as Student Life and Her Campus, Broward College’s online publication.

When asked what prompted him to initiate the segment, Norman said ”with heart to art I noticed there was a chance to give students a different kind of platform”

On this platform, students will be able to listen to and possibly speak on issues regarding school life. Norman has been in contact with different liaisons of Student Life, as well as presidents from different clubs.

Recently, Norman has approached Her Campus, Broward College’s online publication. Her Campus is an online magazine that publishes articles weekly. Her Campus publishes articles on college life and women’s issues on campus. They are a part of an organization that offers women in Journalism and Public Relations find internships and opportunities in their fields. The magazine will be partnering with Seahawk Station to discuss articles and issues regarding the collegiate daily life.  The radio segment will bring the voice of Her Campus to a whole different platform.

Reporters from Her Campus will be invited to speak about their articles and issues that they feel are important to campus life. Like any student who wants to participate, they will have to pitch an idea to Norman and he will then speak to them about how to proceed. Norman will be meeting with Broward College HC presidents and club executives to hash out a plan for the first radio segment.

The segment will be based in North Campus, in building 46. Norman is in the process of picking a time schedule and is waiting on paperwork to broadcast. There is not a set time for the segment as of yet but one will be picked as the date for the first segment approaches.

While it will be based on North Campus, students from all campuses are encouraged to pitch ideas.

While the segment is not active yet, Norman said he was looking for students to participate. Students can help pick the music, and pitch ideas for the segment.Students are encouraged to contact Norman at heart2artbc@gmail.com or drop by Student Life with inquiries.
