- 1908: A Father’s Day service is held in Fairmont, WV (West Virginia) to honor those who perished in the Monongah Mining Disaster.
- 1910: Father’s Day is celebrated in by Sonora Smart Dodd to honor her father, who raised 6 children on his own.
- 1912: A Father’s Day celebration is held in Vancouver, Washington.
- 1957: Senator Margret Chase Smith accused Congress of ignoring fathers for 40 years while honoring mothers.
- 1966: President Lyndon B. Johnson issues the first presidential proclamation to honor fathers on the third Sunday in June.
- 1972: Father’s Day is signed into law as a national holiday.
