Discussing small fashion businesses, a Forbes article in 2019 wrote that “small is the new big”, even going as far as to call these small brands “the future of retail”. Since then, with increasingly more people choosing to veer away from fast fashion retailers, the popularity of smaller, environmentally conscious fashion businesses with high-quality products has skyrocketed. With that in mind, here are a few of the currently biggest small fashion businesses to keep on your radar.

peachy den

Founded in 2019 by Isabella Weatherby, this sustainable London-based fashion brand has become a cult classic amongst the fashion girlies of today. With its aim of making women feel confident and powerful, Peachy Den describes itself as your ‘sartorial best friend‘. The brand’s timeless, yet contemporary outlook on women’s fashion has captured the fashion zeitgeist, making it unsurprising to see these sell-out products worn on popular supermodels, including Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber. With an impressive array of viral bestsellers: from the fun and feminine Kernel Velvet jumpsuit, to the trendy yet practical Mimi Bottoms, Peachy Den caters to your every fashion need.

remass

Starting from founder Danielle Mass’ bedroom in 2018 with an aim to make sustainable fashion more accessible, this small fashion business has gone from being the world’s number #1 Depop brand to launching its own designs in 2021. Inspired by the iconic 90s and Y2K eras, Remass sells one-of-a-kind vintage pieces as well as its own gorgeous originals – some of my favourites include the Sofia and Belle tops. Its engaging social media platforms and collaborations with popular influencer Flossie Clegg have propelled the brand into the attention of Gen Z. With a significant focus on sustainability, all their Remass original designs are produced in England using end of the line fabrics, meaning their adorable products have full ethical consumption which appeals to the increasing market of shoppers looking to buy more environmentally friendly clothing products.

Minka dink

Originating as a 2020 lockdown side-hustle, founder Minnie Royden started her female fashion brand Minka Dink with the intention of creating clothes that she would love and wear herself. Only 3 years later, Minka Dink is now easily recognised by consumers for its signature lace and broderie anglaise designs. The brand provides a fascinating assortment of feminine tops and blouses, as well as the new and gorgeous indigo Lila Jeans that were released online this November, catching fashion girlies by storm. Minka Dink provides fabulous items of amazing quality, whilst still keeping their products affordable; this brand is certainly one to look out for.

fruity booty

Fruity Booty has one overall mission: to bring the fun back into underwear. A refreshingly unique brand, London-based small fashion business Fruity Booty uses only repurposed fabrics and sustainably sourced materials, all its products being limited-edition. A brand designed specifically for the female gaze, Fruity Booty puts a playful spin on lingerie, incorporating bright colours and funky prints to create the perfect fun and captivating undergarments for every woman to enjoy.

Tea & Tequila

Founded back in 2015 by Sarah Goodwin in Mexico City and Mille Bellville in London, this small fashion brand describes itself as a “raw combination of contemporary British style and traditional Mexican craftsmanship”. The brand’s striking and flamboyant approach to fashion makes it entirely unique with their gorgeously vibrant prints and distinctive silhouettes being enough to brighten up any room. Although on the pricier side, these pieces are certainly worth the investment as Tea & Tequila prides itself on using high-quality and natural materials, such as organic cotton and linen to make sure your clothes feel good, in addition to looking good. Whilst your wallet may not thank you, your wardrobe certainly will.
