Shows not to miss – In:Motion 2017 series

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bristol chapter.

It’s that time of year again when Bristol’s legendary In:Motion series rolls back into our lives. It’s hardly surprising that we have seen such a strong start to the series with immense acts like Rodhad, Dub Phizix and Strategy gracing the stage already. In:Motion is back with a more varied and heart-pounding line up than ever before. That being said here are just a few of my picks for the upcoming nights in the series that you don’t want to miss.

Mount Kimbie

A night of ‘post-dubstep’ with Mount Kimbie will be one of the most intriguing of the series. After a couple of years break from the studio, Mount Kimbie’s distinct sound will be warmly welcomed to European ears in Mount Kimbie’s Love What Survives Tour. Their electronic sound is so rhythmically diverse that they could trick you in to believing that they have a full band on stage. If a chilled, effervescent and soul-warming kind of night is your vibe then this is the show for you.

Lost Tape

Manchester-bred MC DRS will host this wicked night, bringing his beautifully deep voice and lyrical intrigue down to Bristol: you’re bound to be grooving.  I predict a real celebration of UK radio culture on this Lost Tape Tour night. KURUPT FM, stars of People Just Do Nothing will have no problem filling every inch of Motion’s immense warehouse with UK garage and giggles. Big Narstie will follow suit making up for what he lacks in musical talent with stage presence and mayhem. Toddla T is another representative of UK radio and will play a solid set, I’m sure. And to top it off if Nicky Blackmarket plays an old skool jungle set you’re in for an absolute treat.

King Krule

The sold-out status of the show makes this piece a bit of a tease but I couldn’t leave out this night. With the recent release of another amazing album, Archy’s playful work with genre and instrumentation procure a sound of soulful youth. There is enough range in his repertoire to give his show energy and pace whilst retaining slower and more thoughtful moments, that his lyrics truly deserve. In respect to his special guests, whoever they maybe King Krule has a lot of talented mates and a great taste in music. I’m sure they will meet the hype.

Run vs Playaz

This is a night for all you high BPM fans. There will be no shortage of filthy basslines and tinny drums for you to feast your ears on. Playaz decades of history in the drum n bass scene will ensure you’re getting your money’s worth. Randall the debated king of jungle and Bristol legend Krust will play B2B, in beautiful harmony. Hype and Hazard, experienced Playaz DJs themselves rightfully take their place in the lineup. Annix will surely be a set to run to, serving you infectious drum n bass. And I’m sure any SASAS fans will be glad to see Phantasy and SAS on the lineup. A night of jungle and jump up that will give you that end of the week release you so badly need.

Chemical Brothers

If you can get your hands on tickets, this is not an opportunity to turn down. Chemical Brothers are renowned for their spectacular lights show and inspiring performances that will move this night closer to a religious experience than a Motion event. Chemical Brothers pioneered dance music and so to see them would be a night of musical education, ecstasy and elation.

Straf_Werk

Musical integrity and quality are not in short supply for Straf_Werk’s night at Motion. Richy Ahmed’s loveable style will produce a set that no one will want to miss. Abandon the toilet queues and hold on to your mates as you don’t want to miss a second of these beautiful DJs sounds. What’s more Skream is playing open to close, now whether this means he will play any old dubstep or simply his newer house movements, I can’t tell you. Either way I can assure you that the hangover will be worth it.
