Grab a cup of coffee and get your free Netflix trial at the ready, because the Gilmore Girls are back! This week, Netflix released the official trailer for its four-part mini-series “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”, coming on November 25th . The series will take us chronologically through the four seasons over a year-long period, giving us a glimpse into what has become of all of our favourite Stars Hollow characters. It’s safe to say the trailer caused a social media frenzy, with so many returning cast members making an appearance; Melissa McCarthy as Sookie, Kelly Bishop as Emily Gilmore, Scott Patterson as Luke Danes, and we even got a glimpse of all 3 of Rory’s old boyfriends. So whether your team Dean, Jess or Logan or like most of us, as cliché as it is, simply team Rory, it looks like we will see her re-kindle some old flames. One character who sadly won’t be making a re-appearance is Richard Gilmore, after actor Edward Herrmann’s death in 2014; with the trailer hinting at how Emily will cope with the loss of her husband. As per usual, she seems to have a gone classically overboard in her coping mechanism, unveiling a huge portrait of Richard which equally horrifies both Rory and Lorelai.

All Gilmore Girls fans will be pleased to note that Lauren Graham as Lorelai and Alexis Bledel as Rory seemed mercifully unchanged in this week’s trailer, despite it being nearly 10 years since the last episode aired. They are still hanging out at Luke’s diner, fuelling their coffee addictions and maintaining that mother-daughter relationship that is everyone’s life goal. Pop culture references do not disappoint and of course the girls are still feeding their junk food habit, however this time excusing it through the fact that the tacos they are eating are “organic”! Stars Hollow too remains the same weird and wonderful place, with the trailer hinting that town meetings are still as dysfunctional as ever, and making us all want to spend Christmas in Stars Hollow.

One of the biggest revelations in the trailer is that Luke and Lorelai are, praise the lord, together, however things don’t seem to be panning out as perfectly as we might have imagined. Lorelai seems to be seeking relationship advice, stating half-heartedly that she and Luke are ‘happy’, but it looks as though this will be a major plot line in the coming series. Thankfully the Dragonfly Inn seems to be going strong, however Rory’s career prospects are not looking so bright. A jobless Rory admits that she has been feeling quite “lost” lately, and I think we can expect her to go on a real journey of self-discovery during the series. We also see a fleeting re-appearance of Paris played by Liza Weil, with the trailer suggesting that her and Rory make a surprise visit to Chilton. There seems to be plenty of reminiscing going on, and with such a great returning cast, this trailer promises to fill the Gilmore Girls shaped hole that was left in all of our hearts when the show ended in 2007. This glimpse into the upcoming series raises so many questions: Will Rory find love, and more importantly herself? Will Emily be able to cope after Richard’s death? Will Luke and Lorelai be able to work through their troubles? But the biggest question the trailer raises by far has got to be, what the heck is Kirk doing at Friday Night Dinner?!
