When I’m looking for work experience, on the hunt for a job or exploring life after university, I’m also looking for somewhere I would fit in. For me, diversity in the workplace is a must-have.

Diversity in the workplace involves creating an inclusive environment that allows individuals to grow by accepting their differences and companies need to reflect this in their workforce and policies to be representative of society.

One the job-hunt, one company I feel does this well is Deloitte. Deloitte has taken a firm stance against systematic bias, racism, and unequal treatment. The firm is a leading provider of audit and assurance, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax and related services that is focused on building an inclusive culture built on a foundation of respect and appreciation of all forms of diversity. The company has a zero- tolerance policy towards discrimination and ensure that their people’s voice is heard so that an antiracist culture exists within the organization.

In response to the Black Lives Matter movement, Deloitte has launched a Black Action Plan with five key commitments aligned with their values of fostering inclusion. This was built from hearing the stories and experiences of black employees in the company. The company is also a founding member of the Change the Race Ratio campaign which aims at increasing racial and ethnic participation in senior management. The Black Action council was created to implement transformational strategy to better enable Black professionals at Deloitte and sustain an antiracist culture within the organization. This policy is followed even in recruitment where there is a focus on removing barriers that have existed for people of colour in society from pursuing a career in accountancy, tax and consulting. The company welcomed the most diverse group of new hires in their history, in fall 2020.

To find out more about the culture in the company and  information about the career options that are available to you check the Deloitte students page here and subscribe to the Monthly Newsletter to get details about events and career opportunities directly from Deloitte here.
