I am a mega Harry Potter fan, as most people know within minutes of meeting me. I am constantly rereading the series (or fanfiction, because let’s admit it: we all do); I put Harry Potter references in normal conversation; my music library is mostly made up of Wizard Rock and Harry Potter parodies, and most assignments I have to do for school include Harry Potter in some way. I basically eat, sleep, and live Harry Potter.

But I often find that when I meet other fans, they believe that I’m not as big of a fan as I say, which leads me to obsess over Harry even more. And if that isn’t the case, it’s that they have done more than I have been able to, like meet certain actors or go to conventions. I have always wanted to have something that makes me different from other fans. My dream is to one day meet JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, and ask her many questions about the series. She is known for her prowess of using Twitter, and will sometimes respond to tweets sent to her from fans. But the most difficult part of it is catching her on Twitter, and at the right moment. JKR will answer a tweet and it sends all of Twitter into a frenzy of sending. Everyone wants her to answer them. I have done this myself many times, all in vain…until now.

Thursday February 4th was one of the best days of my life. That morning, I was in a massive argument with a friend, who believed who was stereotyping that all Slytherins are evil. Just because certain people from our House decided to try to take over the world doesn’t mean that we all want to.  My entire life I have had people say, “You’re a Slytherin? No way, you are too nice to be in that House.”  I was tired of the backlash I have received over the years because of my House and for me, this was the final straw. I got on my Twitter account and noticed that JKR had tweeted something 3 hours prior, so I sent a tweet to her, explaining my problem with the world, not expecting a response. Just a second later, I received a new notification. Figuring it was my best friend, Jessica, I clicked to see who it was. I was stunned by what I saw.

JK Rowling. The Queen herself. Just answered my tweet. I sat in shock for a good five minutes, just grasping the concept of what had just occurred. My biggest hero answered me. More than that, she knew who I was now. I quickly spread the news over all of my social media accounts, while my Twitter was blowing up from the amount of people seeing my Tweet, liking it and sharing it. It became so huge that even Buzzfeed was talking about it.

As of February 6, my Tweet has 18.5 thousand likes, 7,832 retweets, with over 23, 769 thousand people seeing this on Twitter. I had over 100 comments from other fans, saying things like “Don’t worry. I’ll be your friend now”, “Buy a Slytherin scarf and flaunt it loud and proud,” and my favorite of all, “Tell them that your father will hear about this.”

That is amazing to someone like me, who never thought something like this could happen to her! This has been one of the best weeks of my life. Thank you to JK Rowling and Buzzfeed for making it possible to be this happy.
