When us girls think about relationships, we often think about the movies and love songs. Girls fantasize about their wedding day and riding off into the sunset with their Prince Charming, all of which were made possible by the care free imaginations that inhabited our lives. Now, as a college student and adult, we face the pressures of reality and social requirements in today’s world.
Society has evolved into a judgmental place for relationships. All you see are the great things couples are posting on social media, while they could have real issues behind the computer screen. You all may have seen the pictures on social media with the #relationshipgoals for holding hands and him letting you wear his hoodie, but here is a guide on how to find your own relationship goal!
1. Be with someone you are able to be friends with.
A successful relationship is built off of friendship first. Without that, you won’t have anything but the romance. A friendship is that bond that ties you two together and makes your relationship even stronger.
2. Find someone you can tell ANYTHING.
Find that person that you can talk to for hours about anything and everything. Be able to go from a serious conversation to being light hearted and joking around. This is a strong factor in any relationship because there will be times both parties will need to lean on the other or just need to have a laugh. No one should ever be afraid to say something to the person they are dating for fear of their reaction either.Â
3. The two of you are independent but work well together.
Don’t try to invade every second of each other’s life. It is important to have time for yourself with your friends as well for the other party of the relationship.
4. Motivate each other.
Be the constant encouragement in each other’s lives. Help each other reach the goals they set and motivate them to keep going even if it gets hard.
5. Be yourself.
Don’t try to be anyone but yourself. Your true love will fall in love with you if it is meant to be. The little quirks of your personality will mesh up perfectly with the right person.Â
6. Someone who shares the same values in life.
It’s important to share the same values to an extent. If there is no common ground, then this is grounds to start issues and problems later on in the relationship.
7. Willing to do anything for you.
It is one thing to be willing to do anything for them but is your significant willing to do the same for you? Often time’s people fall prey to putting in more effort than their partner. This just creates tension and most relationships fail due to this. Find a partner that will drop what they are doing to come rescue you if your car breaks down, or you lock yourself out of your house.
8. Find someone who will protect and take care of you.
Although you are independent and do not need this quality, this quality in a relationship is something that allows you to feel comforted when you are weak. It lets you become dependent on their strength and it builds your trust and relationship in turn. Do not take this as letting your partner control your life because that is a whole different thing.
9. Â Be with the one who treats you right.
One of the most important things in the relationship is if they treat you with respect and understanding. Never should they make you feel like you are not worthy or attractive. The way they act around you will key you into how much they care. Don’t let them walk all over you. Your special someone should make you feel safe and happy.
10. Finally, be with someone you can see a future with; not just right now.
I genuinely believe in looking for something more than the right now. If you are desiring a successful relationship what else would you want. Make sure that both of you are on the same page as far as the terms you set the relationship upon. Eventually the goal is to grow old with someone who loves you just as much as you love them. Why waste your time?
