Ice cream. Who doesn’t like ice cream? Fascists. I challenge you to find a single photo of Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini enjoying a nice vanilla soft-serve—nay, I urge you. Ice cream is important to democracy. This lovely dessert is essential to the survival of our Republic. Ice cream is deeply embedded in the fabric of our nation and its history.

Our founding fathers (George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson all included) were avid fans of ice cream. In fact, Dolley Madison is said to have served ice cream at James Madison’s first presidential inauguration—what better food could she have served on such a fine day, I ask you. Though the revolutionary figures of the 1700’s have long since gone, their legacies, as well as ice cream, remain strong.

Here are a series of photos of modern day American leaders enjoying this heavenly dish:

Mitt Romney (R), who is in the running to be Donald Trump’s Secretary of State, enjoying a lovely vanilla soft-serve in a cake cone.

Former President Bill Clinton (D) enjoying what appears to be attractive hard-serve vanilla ice cream in a cake cone.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) appears to be enjoying a scrumptious sundae of some sort in a plastic bowl.

President Barack Obama (D) enjoys a hearty hard-serve mint ice cream in a waffle cone.

The Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger (R), terminates a cake cone filled with strawberry ice cream.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (D) eats an unknown flavor of ice cream in a bowl (but one can imagine that it couldn’t have been too rich).

Bonus:

Good Ol’ Uncle Joe! Joe Biden, our vice-president, (D) is the king of ice cream. The man loves ice cream more than any other politician in D.C. and, arguably, across the nation. Biden is even quoted as saying,”My name is Joe Biden, and I love ice cream. You all think I’m kidding — I’m not. I eat more ice cream than three other people you’d like to be with, all at once.”

No matter where you stand politically, if you are a true American, you probably love ice cream. Furthermore, be thankful that you live in a country where you are free to refuse pistachio any day.
