What’s New On Netflix This Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

There is absolutely nothing better than snuggling up after a long day of class and turning on Netflix to end your day. (After all, there is a reason why “Netflix and chill” even became a thing, right?) With the start of the new month, Netflix has announced some changes they will be making to their selection of shows. They will be dropping a few, and adding many more. This article will share a few highly anticipated names that have been circulating around…

Fuller House

A sequel to the vastly popular ‘90s sitcom, Full House, this Netflix series will be everything it sounds like. Many of the main characters from the original series will come back for a whole season, excluding Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (who played the adorably cute Michelle Tanner- the best character in the show). It will take place in San Francisco, just like the original. The eldest, D.J. Tanner, will supposedly be the center of the series. The release date is February 26, 2016 so definitely check it out! I know I certainly will, as this will surely give me all sorts of feels.

Better Call Saul

For all those Breaking Bad fanatics, this spinoff series is a prequel to the well-liked original series.  It shows the evolution of Saul, the main character, as he changes into a crime lawyer from a con-man. Viewers will watch all of the obstacles Saul endures on his transformation. Netflix is airing Season 1 of the show, so if you were one of those obsessed fans, get on that! Season 2 will be aired weekly starting February 16th.

Armageddon

This highly anticipated fan favorite is now on Netflix! It stars Ben Affleck, Owen Wilson, Liv Tyler, Bruce Willis, and Steve Buscemi. The movie was a huge success when it first came out in 1998, and it said that the hype is just as strong now that it is on Netflix. For those who are not in on the plot, an asteroid the size of Texas is anticipated to hit the Earth with a very short warning, and NASA sends a team of deep core drillers (misfits, rather) to save the planet. A must-watch.

Full Metal Jacket

Stanley Kubrick’s well-known “Full Metal Jacket” is one of the most influential Vietnam War movies. It is the story of an 18 year-old United States Marine recruit, and it explores the debilitating effects on himself and his fellow recruits during the war. Through various environments from training camp to bloody street fighting, this movie isn’t so well-known for no reason.

Last but not least…A Series of Unfortunate Events

This one might be getting a little bit ahead of myself, but…Netflix will eventually air Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events! The series will take after the book series and it is super exciting. The cast is supposedly already set- one of whom is Neil Patrick Harris cast for Count Olaf (a major YES from NPH fans!). For those who are aware, and those are not, the series is a tale that follows orphaned children under the control of Count Olaf. The story is full of ups and downs for the children. Keep your eye out for the release date!
