If I had to pick one word to describe Rita Tobias, I would hands down choose energetic. She is the only person I know who is just as wide-awake at 8 a.m. as she is at 11 p.m. Crazy, I know, but it is 100% true. Case and point, flashback to one of the many early mornings you may have been half asleep on your way to class and have passed a Student Events “Wake and Shake.” You know the girl who you always spot dancing, singing, and yelling into the megaphone to come get free munchkins and coffee? Thhhaaaattttt’sssss Rita! If you were a mid year, and you were lucky enough to have Rita as your orientation leader, then I’m sure you too got a taste of her lively and fabulous personality. For those who haven’t had the privilege of meeting Rita now is your chance to do so. I present you with RITA!
You recently had the privilege of being an orientation leader for the midyear class. Can you tell us what it was like?
I loved being a Midyear Orientation Leader! It was so exciting to see the new midyear class and to think about the fact that I was in their shoes only a year ago. It was really fun getting to know the other Orientation Leaders and the Midyear class. The Midyear class is small so you really have a chance to get to know most of them. I love Brandeis and just wanted to show them how awesome it is!
When you aren’t staffing an event for Student Events or helping orient mid years, what else are involved with on campus?
Last semester I was on the Adagio Dance Marathon Committee and helped plan the event to help raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Boston. This semester I just started teaching Zumba in Gosman on Thursday nights from 8-9 and it has been really fun! My first time teaching the class the stereo broke down, which was so scary but I am excited for this coming week!
What upcoming Student Events events are you looking forward to this semester?
BRONSTEIN WEEK!!!!!!!! For those of you who don’t know what Bronstein week is, it is the best weekend on campus! Student Eevnts plans a spirit themed weekend filled with awesome activities and we are in the midst of planning it now! It is going to be from March 28-April1!! Also I LOVE wake n’ shakes! Soooo fun!
What are some of your favorite things to do in Boston and Cambridge?
I go into Cambridge more than into Boston, but I love just getting off campus and going out with my friends, getting some ice cream and shopping a little.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Hmm.. that’s a tough one. I guess I am going to go with Alaska because it just seems so cool and I have always wanted to see what it is like there.
