Places to Study When the Library Is Full

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

With finals coming up, space in the library will soon be limited. People start camping out and claiming desks (did anyone see the person who made a tent out of a desk last year?). If you have a car, Zipcar, or any other mode of travel, here are a couple places off campus you can study:

1.      Café on the Common

Check out my article from last year here. Café on the Common is right on Main Street and is a great place to study!

2.      Starbucks in Wellesley

This Starbucks is a great place to study, as well. It does tend to fill up with Wellesley and Babson students, but there is another Starbucks right down the road in Newton if that is the case. Get a latte, enjoy the free Wi-Fi, and get some work done here. When you are done, come and visit me over at Pinkberry! We now are swirling gingerbread!

3.      Panera Bread in Waltham

A great places to study with a calm atmosphere and Wi-Fi! Also, don’t forget that Panera has absolutely amazing food. Check out their baked potato soup—delicious!

4.      Waltham Library

In the event that the Brandeis Library is full (which it will be), head on over to the Waltham library, which will provide you will the same quiet atmosphere—just less people!

Here are some places on campus that you may have forgotten about:

5.      Mandel

Mandel has some great spots to study, especially the third floor. Don’t forget to look here.

6.      The Art Gallery in the SCC

This big room is always open. Sometimes there aren’t any tables, but most of the time there are. It’s quiet in here, and people often forget that it is a great place to study.

7.      The Science Center

This place is beautiful! It is not just for science kids, and it is a great place to study. It is very quiet, unless a lab just got out. Also the architecture in here is so amazing, you have to check it out.

8.      Upper Sherman or Levin

These two places are often forgotten about, too. Close to dining halls so you can eat and then study all in the same place!

Also, don’t forget that 24-hour quiet hours will start up, so you can totally take advantage of your dorm too!  No matter where you choose to study—on or off campus—good luck, ladies! And may the odds be ever in your favor.

Andrea is a sociology major with minors in journalism and women's and gender studies. She is currently finishing her senior year at Brandeis University. She was born and reared in Los Angeles, CA, which does mean that she is a die-hard Laker fan… Sorry Bostonians. When Andrea is not routing on her favorite basketball team, she dedicates her time to her many passions. They include reading and writing about fashion, traveling, exploring new restaurants, spending time with friends, watching reality television (she has a weak spot for Bravo), shopping, and working out.
