As the semester winds down and finals begin, Brandeis students find themselves having a strange mentality between the excitement of the approaching winter break and the hysteria of finals period. This mindset often causes tension between friends, induces anxiety, and makes students wonder how bad it would actually be to drop out. But Brandeis is not the only place that is being overtaken by weird mindsets because this week has been filled with strange conflicts all over the globe.
Ukraine Parliament Breaks out in Brawl
On Friday, December 11th, what started out as a normal day in the Ukrainian Parliament soon turned into all-out pandemonium. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk was giving a report in front of parliament when, Oleh Barna, a member from the president’s party, a political opponent of the Prime Minister, approached him with a bouquet of roses. A seemingly nice gesture at first, Barna proceeded to wrap his hands around the Prime minister’s waist in an attempt to rip him from the podium. In a matter of seconds the entire parliament was on its feet and everyone was trying to help the Prime Minister.Â
Donald Trump Dodges Bald Eagle Attacks
This Wednesday photos and videos from an August photo-shoot with Donald Trump and Bald Eagle, Uncle Sam, surfaced for the entire world to see. The photos and videos show Trump’s volatile relationship with Uncle Sam. Whenever Trump tries to be calm and diplomatic, as he normally does, Uncle Sam randomly lashes out at in anger. The 27-year old bird nearly hit Trump with his wings on multiple occasions, causing Trump to recoil in fear of Uncle Sam.
Climate Activists Scale Arc de Triomphe
In Paris this week, Greenpeace activists scaled the Arc de Triomphe. When on top they released banners that demanded President Francois Hollande to “renew the energy.” The reason for Greenpeace’s demonstration is the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference which his happening now in Le Bourget, France.
U.S. and Cuba Resolve Mail Issues
Ending on a more positive note, the U.S. and Cuba took another step towards a steady alliance by resuming mail service between the two for the first time in over 50 years. The new program will have ships delivering mail directly between the two, which will be much more convenient and speedy than the regulated system that has been in place.Â
