Hometown: Margate, NJ
Major: History
Her Campus: What are you involved in outside of academics?
Michael Jones: I’m a brother of Phi Kappa Psi, which is an amazing group of people to be a part of. I love the brotherhood aspect; it’s people you can joke around with but also be serious with at the same time. I’m also currently trying to start a roller blading club
HC: Cool! Do you hold positions in phi psi?
MJ: Yeah, I’m actually two things, historian and messenger! Historian takes all of the pictures and messenger sets up for meetings and helps to run elections when we have them.
HC: That sounds great to be so involved. So you’re a history major, what’s your favorite part of history?
MJ: I’d have to definitely say the crusades, and I actually just finished a Kapelle class that focused on that time period, so it was great.
HC: What do you usually do during the summer/plan to do?
MJ: I actually live right by the beach, which is awesome so I get to go there, but last summer I also worked at a law firm, which took up most of my time. This summer my sister is going to be staffing the Maccabia games in Israel and I really want to go with her!
HC: Sounds amazing! What do you do at Brandeis when you have free time? Do you have a favorite memory of being here?
MJ: I like to hang out outside a lot, especially on the great lawn when the weather is warm! I also just went to the Rose Art Museum for the first time this semester and now it’s something I really enjoy. Definitely one of my favorite memories happened this year during midterms when my friends and I decided to take a break from studying, and we went to the park near Dartmouth Street and watched a meteor shower.
HC: If you could have any job in the world what would it be?
MJ: Oh, I love this question. I would want to travel the world and film wildlife and other amazing things about Earth. I’m probably going to add an environmental studies minor, that stuff really interests me.
HC: That would be the coolest job ever! Do you have any fun plans for break?
MJ: I’m actually going to staff international convention for USY, which is being held in Boston. I’ve staffed a few things and I really like still being involved in USY, which I did in high school. I really appreciate the way it keeps me in tact with my Jewish identity and I love the cultural aspects of it.

Winter fashion picks: a sweater with a nice pair of boots and a peacoat
One essential you can’t live without: camera phone, or just something where you’re able to take a picture. I’ve also begun to use my phone to write things down. I hat to miss out on moments where I wish I had a camera!
Advice to freshmen: take classes that interest you instead of thinking about your future, and find what you really want to do. This was definitely something I had to learn the hard way. Don’t be afraid to seek outside help, too.
