Meet the Staff: Emily Reich ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Majors/Minors: Psychology/Business and Journalism

Year: 2017

Hometown: Katonah, NY

Her Campus: What are you involved in on campus?

Emily Reich: I am involved with Her Campus as both a writer and as Events Coordinator. I am also the Secretary and PR Coordinator for Deis3D, the Brandeis 3D Printing Club.

HC: Why did you get involved in Her Campus?

ER: I’ve always loved to write, and I was looking for a good outlet for my writing. Sydney, one of our Campus Correspondents, lived in my hall last year and I knew she was involved with Her Campus, so I asked her if I could come to a meeting and that was that!

HC: What do you do at Her Campus?

ER: I write articles for Her Campus and also coordinate all of our events. Last weekend we co-hosted a showing of “What If” with Student Events as part of their Fall Film Series. We have a bunch of other events in the works for later this semester and next semester.

HC: What’s your favorite thing about Brandeis?

ER: Being so close to Cambridge and Boston is awesome. When things start to get boring on campus, an amazing city filled with shows, shopping, restaurants, and more is only a shuttle ride away.

HC: What are some of your favorite things to do at Brandeis?

ER: I love getting bagels and coffee from Einstein’s on the weekend! A good breakfast on a Saturday morning is one of the best things ever. I also love seeing Boston from my dorm room in Pomerantz. The city practically glows at night, and it’s one of the most beautiful things.

HC: If you could give a Brandeis first year one piece of advice, what would it be?

ER: I would say that it’s okay to drop some activities that you picked up first semester. It’s awesome to try new things and you totally should! It’s also okay to realize that you don’t love something as much as you thought you would. You’re not committed for four years to that first club that you join.

HC: What do you want to do after Brandeis?

ER: Oh gosh… I’m not really sure. I would love to combine psychology and journalism in some way. I really love studying and discovering new things about why people are the way they are. I would also enjoy pursuing a job at a company that is similar to Her Campus in the sense that it is open to many different styles of writing. I’m hoping to land a journalism internship this summer, so maybe I’ll have things a little more figured out by next fall!
