You may have seen the petite blonde, otherwise known as Julie Judson, wondering around campus recently and thought to yourself, hmm that can’t be her- she graduated last year! Well readers, it is not time for a visit to the eye doctor because you think something must be wrong with your vision, because it is indeed the famous Brandeis alum! Julie is now working in the office of President Lawrence and HC caught up with her to find out how she is adjusting to her new career and exciting life in Boston, whether she is still pursuing dance, and what music she has been listening to non-stop lately.
Â
HC: How does it feel to be back on campus now that you are an alumni?
JJ: Being back on campus has been a challenge for me, because I’m making a constant effort to adjust to a new role in an old place. However, its always a good, reassuring feeling to be back in an environment where I know I’m comfortable.
Â
HC: What does your new job entail? Do you find that everyday is different?Â
JJ: My job is just that – new. Â Its a new position that was created recently so its being transformed all the time. Â I am going to be assisting with a lot of different tasks and projects within the Office of the President. Â I am still working toward getting into a routine right now, but I imagine that in the coming weeks the work will really start to pick up.
Â
HC: How do you like living in Boston? What is your favorite part about the city?
JJ: I love living in Boston – my apartment is really special and I’m enjoying living with my roommate so far (a friend of a friend that I was introduced to over the summer).  I love coming home at the end of each day after a long day of work and maybe taking an exercise class, making myself dinner, and just hanging out before its time for bed. Sounds a little lame, I know, but I don’t have energy for much else!  I think my favorite part of the city thus far has been how charming and beautiful it is.  I love the brownstones, the brick streets, and the character of Boston.  It is really unlike any other city I’ve spent time in. Â
Â
HC: During your time at Brandeis you were extremely involved in dance. Are you still dancing? If so, where?
JJ: I am dancing, but not as much as I’d like to be. Â I recently found a fantastic dance class that I try to make twice a week at a studio down the street from my apartment. The instructor is really great and patient, and has a similar style to the one I default to when I’m choreographing a piece, so its always a lot of fun for me. Â I look to pilates classes and the gym for other forms of exercise when I can’t take dance classes. Â
Â
HC: Will you participate in the alumni dance for the Adagio Fall show “Dancefest?”
JJ: Yes! Â I’m very excited to be part of the show and grateful to this year’s executive board for inviting us (graduates) to be part of it. Â My experience with Adagio Dance Company, Dance Ensemble, and all dance on campus (theater, etc) is what I think of first when I look back on my time in college, so it will be wonderful to share the stage with the people who were part of that once again.
Â
HC: What is one thing that Her Campus readers should know about you and don’t?
JJ: Oh man, this is a tough one. Â Her Campus readers probably don’t know that I’m a huge lover of classic movie musicals, so much so that I designed my own independent study with a professor on campus just so I could have an excuse to study them more in-depth. Â I don’t even know how many times I’ve watched movies like West Side Story, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Singin’ in the Rain, etc, but any time I can I turn one of them on, and instantly, I feel better.
Â
HC: What is your favorite song at the moment?Â
JJ: Asking me to pick a favorite song is like asking me to kill off one of my darlings. Â I guess if I had to pick ONE it would probably be an oldie but a goodie: “Rock With You” by Michael Jackson. Â It’s really sexy in an understated way and such a jam. Â Closely followed by “Addicted to Love” (I’m just getting on the Florence + The Machine train but I think she’s pretty fabulous) and then “Let Him Fly” by Patti Griffin (dying to choreograph a duet to this one day soon for my friend Greg (Storella ’11) and I.)
