This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Winter Break is just around the corner and if you want to escape the snow and add some culture to your day, check out these five movies.

Exodus: Gods and Kings

In theaters: December 12

Directed by: Ridley Scott

Stars: Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver

Story: Join Christian Bale as Moses on his quest to free the Jews from slavery. Highlights include the ten plagues, the splitting of the red sea, and lots of CGI special effects. This is a spectacle that you won’t want to miss.

Top Five

In theaters: December 12

Directed by: Chris Rock

Stars: Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union, Kevin Hart

Story: Watch as a comedian tries to make as a serious actor, while his reality-TV wedding is under the radar. I liked that this trailer had a cameo by Tracy Jordan—I mean Morgan so you know this movie is going to be funny.

Annie

In theaters: December 19

Directed by: Will Gluck

Stars: Quvenzhané Wallis, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne

Story: This modern spin on an old classic takes you on the journey of your favorite orphan (now foster kid) Annie to find family in a billionaire (still billionaire) Mr. Stacks (instead of Daddy Warbucks?) Old favorites like “It’s a Hard Knock Life” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” get a 2014 makeover. All you need is a little auto-tune and some dubstep remix and Cameron Diaz can now sing. Tomorrow is only a day away!

Story: If you need a good movie to share with younger siblings or cousins, than Night at the Museum is a perfect movie to share with your family. Join night security guard Larry Daley (Stiller) as he saves his friends in the British Museum in London, one last time. This is also the perfect movie to say goodbye to the incredible actor, Robin Williams.

Brace yourself for a twist on your favorite fairy tales. Watch as Cinderella, Repunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack in the Beanstalk, a baker and his wife, and a cow named Milky White, have their dreams shattered by a witch (the incomparable MERYL STREEP) who places a curse on the baker and his wife and forces them to go “into the woods” to find items to reverse the curse…I’m just going to stop here so I don’t spoil this movie. Please GO SEE IT.
