Many girls I know always dread the month of February simply because of one day out of the entire month… no, I’m not talking about February 29, leap year, but instead Feb 14th… Valentines day, the day which is eternally engrained in every single and non-single girl’s head. Some ladies panic about what to get their boyfriend or what they are going to do to celebrate if they do not have that special someone to spend the day with. It seems that what people wear on V Day is always an afterthought, when in fact it should be everyone’s number one priority.

You could be on the date of a lifetime, but if you are wearing a pair of mustard yellow cargo pants and a white shirt with a cranberry juice stain on it, then the night might just feel like a normal date night rather than a special one. If your guy goes all out planning a romantic evening, then you should do your part to dress the part.

Some people, like myself don’t really get too into the whole Valentines Day excitement. I’ll paint my nails red or pink and wear a shirt in those same hues, but that’s about the extent of it.

Out of curiosity I asked some of my friends on campus, what are their favorite Valentines day themed outfits to wear in order to see if we had a similar take on the subject. To my astonishment, complete chaos ensued. I have never seen my friends more passionate about the subject of an outfit in my life. One girl exclaimed that she wears cupid wings, another said that she wears a headband with red sparkly bouncy hearts attached to it, and my other friend said she wears pajamas decorated with hearts around the entire day. After always thinking that I was apart of the norm, I was shocked to hear that I was one of the exceptions.

While my cronies are fashion risk-takers who do not mind standing out from the crowd, I decided to do a little investigating of my own to see wha
t some more “normal” and “simple” trends you guys can try out this year without going overboard, perhaps.

Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, and Jennifer Hewitt were all spotted out and about sporting this Wildfox Couture sequined heart sweatshirt. Not only is it simple and chic but it is also a wardrobe staple that can be worn even when it is not Valentines day. Oftentimes, people make a special trip to the store to get a t-shirt they can wear just for the day, which then goes on sale the day after. Kind of a waste in my opinion, so who wouldn’t love to splurge on a clothing article they can wear for 365 days rather than one? These three celebs had no problem sporting the sweatshirt not on February 14th so don’t feel like you are breaking any fashion rules by following suit.

Another alternative is to wear a simple neutral dress, like this one from ASOS, which wa
s featured on teenvogue.com as a Valentine’s day dress under $100. It is stylish, sexy, and can be accessorized with a sophisticated pair of red pumps. With a sleek ensemble like this you’re guaranteed to look effortless and incredible. It’s always refreshing to wear something a little more unexpected on holidays when a majority of the population reverts to the usual and monotonous red or pink tee or sweater.

So this Valentines Day don’t dread getting dressed and instead get excited. There are so many options to choose from that it shouldn’t be a problem to find something you feel comfortable and cute in. Whether you are attending an, I Hate Valentines Day party inspired by the one Jessica Biel threw in the movie, or going on a romantic date in Waltham, let your friends and or honey know that whether you love or don’t love the day that you still love to look fashionable.
