On Friday, Sept. 9, a crowd of students waited in anticipation for Student Events to announce which musical act would be coming to Brandeis for our annual fall concert. Though there were joking shouts in favor of Justin Bieber, the crowed reacted enthusiastically when the true band was announced: Guster!

Guster was formed in 1991 by three Tufts University students. Band members Adam Gardener, Ryan Miller and Brian Rosenworcel met at orientation, and the rest is history. Guster remained largely underground until their 1999 album, Lost and Gone Forever, which rocketed them into mainstream success. The band is also known for its activism; guitarist and vocalist Gardner and his wife founded Reverb in 2004, an organization dedicated to assisting touring artists by making activities more environmentally sound and raising environmental awareness.

A favorite Guster song, “Amsterdam,” from their 2003 album Keep It Together, highlights their pleasantly catchy indie pop melodies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0TQVbiWeEs.
The fall concert is an annual event that brings an eclectic mix of famous performers to Brandeis. Acts in recent years include Regina Spektor, Third Eye Blind, Nas, Girl Talk, Ben Folds and OK Go.

Guster will be performing at Brandeis on Sept. 24 in the Shapiro Gym in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and the concert will begin at 8. Brandeis student tickets are available for presale at the box office for $10 until Sept. 15. After that, student tickets will be $15, and off-campus and online sales will be $20, except for a one-day exclusive sale at the Student Events Wake & Shake outside of Usdan Student Center on Sept. 21; tickets will be available there for $10.

Be sure to buy your tickets soon so you don’t miss out on Guster’s lively performance at our own Brandeis University!
