Chill and Folky Fall Playlist

Life is always better with a killer soundtrack, so I scoured Spotify for the best songs that scream Fall. Jump in a pile of leaves, pick some apples, and make yourself a nice cup of hot cocoa, because I’ve got your fall vibes all set. Just hit play.

  1. Sleep on the Floor by The Lumineers

From the album Cleopatra (2016)

I have never wanted to go on a road trip more than when I first heard this song. A great kick start to any last-minute adventure with your friends or significant other. Just lean your head out the window, watch the leaves change color before your eyes, and feel the cool fall wind in your hair.

  1. The Love Club by Lorde

From the extended album Pure Heroine (2013)

So cliques are a thing. The fall season also means back-to-school season, and for some people, school friend groups can be a little . . . toxic. Lorde gives us a very real (but still catchy) song about navigating these kinds of relationships.

  1. Like Real People Do by Hozier

From the self-titled album Hozier (2014)

Hozier is known for his beautiful melodies and even more beautiful imagery in his music. This song is no different. Look up at the night sky and feel the damp grass under your bare feet as you listen to this soft, eerie ballad.

  1. White Flag by Joseph

From the album I’m Alone, No You’re Not (2016)

I can totally picture this song playing at the county fair. It’s the perfect anthem for anyone who’s ever been told to be quiet. Upbeat and fun, these three sisters know how to write an uplifting song for the people that are constantly being pushed to the side.

  1. Redbone by Childish Gambino

From the album Awaken, My Love! (2016)

To say that Childish Gambino is an eclectic artist is a major understatement. He totally delivers with the chill vibes on this one.

  1. Strawberry Blond by Mitski

From the album Retired From Sad, New Career in Business (2013)

You can always count on Mitski for some depressing indie rock bangers, but this song deviates from that a bit. You can’t help but smile when you listen to this one. It’s a cute little song about a crush. Very relatable, right?

  1. Motion Sickness by Phoebe Bridgers

From the album Stranger in the Alps (2017)

We’re back in the car for this one, but a little nauseous this time. This song deals with what it feels like getting out of a bad relationship. Bridgers takes us through the “motions,” soft rock style.

  1. Dreams by Fleetwood Mac

From the album Rumours (1977)

A little throwback to the 70s with this song from the iconic album Rumours. Stevie Nicks’s voice still has a magical hold on us and she’ll leave you feeling lonely in the nicest way.

  1. South London Forever by Florence + The Machine

From the album High as Hope (2018)

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about fall that makes me feel nostalgic. Florence conveys this feeling perfectly with this song. If you want to miss a place you’ve never been to, listen to this.

  1. Joanne by Lady Gaga

From the album Joanne (2016)

And lastly, this sad, beautiful song from the queen herself, Lady Gaga. I definitely wasn’t expecting this country-pop-folk album from her, but it quickly became one of my favourites. Talk about talented! This song is personal, raw and sure to strike a chord somewhere inside you.
