Brandeis Television

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Did you know that Brandeis has its own TV station? I interviewed Ethan Roseman, tresurer for BTV to learn more.

Her Campus: What is BTV? :
Ethan Roseman: BTV is a movie and film club. We help provide services for students to make their own productions, train our members, and make videos and promos for other clubs on campus.

HC: That’s awesome! What have students been working on this year?
ER: Freshman James Conlon has made a myriad of short videos and other projects. You can see some of his stuff here http://www.youtube.com/UnicycleFish and here http://www.youtube.com/analyticalFilms/.

HC: What are your goals for the club this year?
ER: In the past few years, BTV has gotten a bad rep for not being active enough and misusing club funds. This year, we’ve tried to rectify that by being transparent about what we’re buying and why we’re buying it. We also have been trying to stay more active, producing more content than we have in past years while maintaining the quality.

HC: Tell us about what you do on a weekly basis.
ER: BTV has weekly board meetings on Sunday night in which we plan our meeting for the week and work on other club administration as well as our own project. But more on that later! On Monday we have our general meeting at 8 PM in room 339 of the SCC. We usually check in with other people’s projects, talk about the status of the club, and discuss potential projects people have for us and who would like to get involved.

Additionally, Rohan Narayanan–BTV president, and I have been working with The Justice to create weekly videos in which we interview Brandeis students. Those can be found here http://www.youtube.com/user/TheJusticePaper.

HC: I hear you have a new webseries, Desian Couple. What were your inspirations?
ER: Board members Margaret Hoffman and Giselle Silberman approached Rohan and I about the concept early on this year. They thought of how awkward some of the couples on campus can be, and we just sat down and wrote a few episodes. It really just grew from there.
HC: Where can we find the videos?
ER: You can find us on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/DeisTV – We post our new content there and on our facebook:http://www.facebook.com/BrandeisTV and website:http://www.brandeis.tv

HC: How many more episodes can we plan on seeing?
ER: I can tell you right now that episodes 4 and 5 are finished…but I won’t reveal how many more there will be! ;)

HC: Tell us a little bit about producing Desian Couple.
ER: We usually write our episodes at board meetings since the board are the ones working on the project. We reached out to Matt Crowley and Kelsey Segaloff early on last semester, so casting was pretty much done early on. We tend to film 1-2 times a month, filming 1-2 episodes each filming session. It’s been an incredible learning process for the board, as we’ve never worked on a project of this scale before.

HC: It all sounds fun! How can we get involved in the club?
ER: Please feel free to email us at btvmain@lists.brandeis.edu or come to our weekly meetings on Monday at 8 PM in room 339 of the SCC. We love seeing new members get involved!
