4 Ways to Deal With Too Much Home Time Over April Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Going home for breaks is great for many reasons–family, home cooked meals, free laundry, special furry loved ones, and much needed off time from the stress of never ending midterms.  But the fact that Brandeis breaks never align with every other school’s breaks means that there are fewer possibilities for escape from days spent running errands with parents, bickering with siblings and binge watching Netflix. After all, one can definitely spend a little too much time chilling at home with family.  So when home is feeling a little opressive, here are some easy ways you can turn to to escape:

Visit a friend who goes to school locally.

If you have any friends who go to college locally, April break is the perfect opportunity to get away from the house and spend a couple days catching up and reminicing about crazy high school days.

Or, schedule an outing with a sibling.

If you’ve got younger siblings still living at home, take an afternoon to do something special together.  It’s a great way to get in some bonding time and a good opportunity to vent about how annoying your parents can be.

Get comfortable going out alone.

If visiting with friends is a no-go over break, get out of the house by spending a solo day out.  Head to a new cafe you’ve heard about or your favorite museum.  Even a twenty minute walk around your neighborhood will do when home is feeling a little overwhelming.

Turn your bathroom into a spa for a night.

If you’re feeling too lazy to go out but still need an escape, retreat to the bathroom for a long bath, homemade facemask and mani-pedi.  You’re sure to feel rejuvinated just enough to head out and deal with neverending pestering about what your summer internship plans are.
