Why I Recommend Disney World for Your Birthday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bradley U chapter.

I recently got back from a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I was there celebrating my 21st birthday, and I can honestly say it was the most fun that I’ve ever had for a birthday. I want to highlight some of the reasons why I think that Disney World, while expensive, is one of the best ways to spend your birthday, regardless of how old you’re turning.

it truly is the happiest place on earth

Whether or not you’ve personally been to Disney World, you’re bound to know that it’s often referred to as the, “The happiest place on earth.” My first time being there, I was in high school, and even though I was older than the typical demographic, it was still one of the most magical trips of my life. They truly immerse you into a whole other world while you’re there. If you’re lucky enough to stay on property — like my family does — you never leave the magic. You get to spend your whole vacation surrounded by Disney magic all day, every day. It’s been just as magical each time I’ve gone since my first trip a few years ago.

It’s somehow even more magical when you’re celebrating your birthday

When my mom and I got to the parks the first day, we both knew we wanted to get birthday pins since we were both celebrating. Getting them was one of the best decisions ever since we were constantly being told “happy birthday” from the cast members everywhere. We truly were celebrated wherever we went. Everyone who works at Disney World is there to make the day memorable for visitors. For those celebrating, they try extra hard to keep the magic alive the whole time you’re there. From wishing us a happy birthday to giving us complimentary champagne and ice cream, we truly felt important the entire time we were there.

The weather is, arguably, always perfect

If you’re from the Midwest like myself, you’re used to never knowing how the weather is going to be. My birthday is in February, so it’s truly never great weather for my special day. However, Florida is always more ideal than Illinois, in my opinion. I would never trade having all four seasons to live in Florida, but it’s always fun to daydream about being in warm and sunny weather year round. If you go for your birthday, you’re almost always guaranteed to have great weather, so you can truly dress to impress for your day, instead of layering to stay warm. February was perfect since the weather truly never got cooler than 50 degrees. I was fortunate enough to have 85 degree weather during my trip. Even over the summer, when the weather is in the triple digits, I would still make the argument that it would be great weather.

It is worth the price

I know the first thing everyone thought of when they read the title was that Disney World is expensive. You’re absolutely right. I will not sit here and pretend like it isn’t, when it truly is one of the most expensive vacations my family has ever been on. However, I’ve never been there and thought that it wasn’t worth the money we spent. Even if you just pay for the actual park tickets and none of the extras like an on-property resort or Genie+, you’ll still be getting the most out of your money the entire time you’re there. As I’ve previously talked about, everyone working there is aiming to give you the best time you can have while you’re there, and that doesn’t change whether you spend more or less than someone else.

Overall, if you’ve ever considered going to Disney World for your birthday, I can absolutely say that it’s worth it. My 21st birthday was the most special birthday I’ve ever had, and I owe a lot of that to being in Disney World. If nothing else, it’s worth just looking into it to see if it’s something that you’re able to do, or if it’s something you’d even be interested in doing.
