I feel like I speak for everyone when I say that it is extremely shocking to hear the news that Elon Musk and Grimes broke up after being together for three years and having a child together. According to Page Six, Elon revealed early on September 24 in an interview that him and Grimes have decided to be “semi-separate” from one another after things didn’t work out between the two. Grimes and Elon still parent their one year old, X Æ A-Xii, together, and there is apparently a lot of love between the two still. However, with Elon being busy with things such as his Tesla company and everything with SpaceX, he is needed in Texas while Grimes continues to live in Los Angeles and the distance just became too much for the two.
That being said, there still isn’t a lot of information regarding the split. As of September 26, there has still been no comment by Grimes on the matter, and there is still only the one interview with Elon from Page Six. This was very shocking as it was reported that Grimes and Elon were spotted together inside of the Met Gala only a week and half before on September 13. After that, Elon was spotted that following weekend attending a party alone with Nicole Shanahan, Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s wife.
Elon Musk, 50, and Grimes, 33, began dating in 2018, and was confirmed when they went public at the Met Gala that year together. After that, there is a possible breakup around August 2018-October 2018 when they unfollowed each other on Instagram, however, everything seems to be normal following that October. The couple doesn’t do anything too out of the ordinary as Grimes publicly noted that she hadn’t been prepared for all of the public comments that came with their relationship. Then, completely out of nowhere, on January 8, 2020, Grimes announced on Instagram that she was pregnant with Elon’s child. That broke the Internet but was nothing compared to the announcement of the name on May 5, 2020: X Æ A-12. As if the name wasn’t weird enough, the state of California came forward to tell them that it was illegal for the name to contain numbers, which prompted the X Æ A-Xii. After that, things were normal between the two and they publicly looked like every other couple with their normal baby pictures on Instagram.
On September 25, 2021, Elon Musk was spotted leaving an airport in Los Angeles, California sipping a drink casually and unbothered despite announcing the break up the day before. Apparently, he wasn’t lying when he said that the pair are on good terms with their relationship because otherwise, he would’ve been more physically upset about the split after three years. Right? Nonetheless, that’s all that we know at the moment, and I am definitely patiently waiting for Grimes to comment on all of this. A breakup between these two was definitely not on my bingo card for this year, but it is keeping the year exciting.
