I think I find myself hearing about a new crime show every other week, and they aren’t necessarily new to TV, they’re just new to me. In the world of crime TV shows, it can be very difficult to navigate and find the best fit for you to spend hours binge watching. Here are four of my favorites that each have their own appeal.

Law and Order: SVU

I have seen only the first few seasons and random episodes that are on TV. I think this show does a great job of keeping the audience in suspense when focusing on each episode’s crime, while still developing the characters. Each episode provides meaningful interactions and helps to further the discussion of sexual assault. With 23 seasons and a 24th set to air September 2022, this show is the longest-running live action television show in history. On top of that, they never cease to come up with unique and captivating episodes.

Criminal minds

Out of 15 seasons, I have one and a half seasons left after starting the series just two and a half months ago. Some would argue that’s sad, but I say that’s impressive. This show focuses on the Behavioral Analysis Unit in the FBI in which they hunt serial killers by making a profile that will help to ultimately catch the killer. Some cases do happen to be VERY gruesome. “Criminal Minds” does an extremely good job focusing on character development; you get a great feel for who each character is at work and at home. My main complaint towards the show is in the later seasons, it feels like they are forcing conflict onto each character to rush the development.

Psych

“Psych” has eight seasons, one musical and three movies with the potential of two more. This show has easily been my go-to comfort/background noise show. I can’t even count how many times I’ve watched this show all the way through. The series is more of a comedy than a serious show. The humor is the kind of humor that will go over a kid’s a head, but most adults will definitely understand. You really get to know the characters and all their goofy interactions and comments. I can’t say enough good things about this show. Nothing I say will do it justice.

Castle

I watched this show all the way through back in 2016 when the last episode aired. Similar to the other crime shows I discussed, “Castle” finds that same happy medium between focusing on the cases and the character development. However, I found myself having a bigger emotional connection to the characters’ relationships. I remember when the series finale premiered; I cried while watching it and my little sister made fun of me.
