Vibe Check

This podcast is described as the listeners’ “favorite group chat,” which is essentially what it is. It is like if you took your current group chat with your besties and made a podcast. Hosts Sam Sanders, Saeed Jones, and Zach Stafford spend each week going over what is currently going on in culture and the news. They share how they are feeling about current important topics, and what the news means for the monoculture. This podcast goes into more political issues than your traditional pop culture deep dive, but I enjoy it just as much if not more. Sam, Saeed, and Zach are three black gay men who give me all the right vibes when I listen to the podcast. They all do a great job of presenting the facts backed up by good sources, and then sharing their opinions.

Were You Raised by Wolves?

This weekly podcast is an etiquette-based talk show that covers every topic from eating croissants properly to setting boundaries with outrageous family members. Hosts Nick Leighton and Leah Bonnema spend each week providing advice on how to handle various etiquette situations people face on the day-to-day along with some special and crazy scenarios. Each episode starts with an etiquette deep dive into a topic Nick picks out, for example: buttering bread at a dinner party. They then transition to a specific question of etiquette, for example, going on first dates. After the deep dives, they move on to listener questions. This is my favorite segment, some of the questions Nick and Leah receive are tame, but others can really throw you for a loop. The one that comes to mind is a story about a blind woman who had roses stolen from her garden by her non-blind neighbor. Insane right? No, it gets worse. In a conversation with her neighbor’s daughter, she finds out her neighbor took them because she “wouldn’t notice.” Most of the questions are not this crazy, but still very entertaining. I have learned a lot from this podcast about etiquette and how to set boundaries when I need to.

I hope you give these a listen if they sound interesting to you! I listen to them on Overcast, but they can also be found on Apple and Spotify.
