Are you looking for live music for your weekend outings? Getting into the live music scene in Bowling Green but unsure where to start? Here are 3 local bands to keep an eye on as you explore live performance in Bowling Green!

If you know anything about me (other than my intense love for all things lavender purple), it’s that I’m always keeping an eye out for local music and events in the Bowling Green area. Thankfully, the music scene in Bowling Green is lively and constantly busy. Whether you’re looking for a fun weekend event or just looking for new music to add to your current Spotify rotation, here are 3 local bands (in no particular order) that I recommend to any music lover!

. Box Dye Blonde

If you’re looking for a female-fronted band based in Bowling Green, Box Dye Blonde may be a band for you to check out! Although more recently formed, Box Dye Blonde has already had a strong showing in their short time together. Box Dye Blonde is an awesome blend of Punk and Alt Rock, with fantastic stage presence and band chemistry. Their recent performance at Howard’s on August 22nd was high energy, with an energetic (and full) audience, and an especially great performance of “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit! Box Dye Blonde is a top contender for up-and-coming bands based in Bowling Green. Did I mention an awesome female vocalist and bassist fronting the band? I highly recommend Box Dye Blonde to anyone looking for new bands to see in Bowling Green, with a great Punk sound, and captivating performers. Check out their Instagram for updates and future performance dates!

. Milk on the Rocks

Milk on the Rocks is another great option for Alternative Punk lovers. Although I’ve seen Milk on the Rocks live multiple times now, I’m always impressed by their performance and energy. Their recent showing in August at the Cla-zel Theater, as an opener for Emo cover band Deep Cuts, was a fantastic experience! Not only was the band high energy, but funny and engaging for their audience (and my neck hurt realllyyy bad afterwards, good sign!). The members did a fantastic job of working the crowd and encouraging the dancing (and moshing) of their audience. Every Milk on the Rocks experience is always captivating, high energy, and humorous. Not only is the Alternative Punk sound strong in this one, but so is the crowd work. Watching Milk on the Rocks’ past performances, I recommend them to anyone looking to expand their playlists and seek out local music. Check out Milk on the Rocks on Spotify for a sneak peek into their discography (although, live shows are always more fun)!

. Adore After Dark

Maybe I’m biased, but you can never go wrong with a female-fronted band! Adore After Dark is another band with a strong female vocalist, and an even stronger Alternative sound. And, to make them even better, they recently performed alongside Box Dye Blonde for a garage party and birthday celebration on August 28th. The intimate house party setting made the performance feel personal, and all the more captivating. As an Alternative music lover myself, the slightly heavier sound of Adore After Dark is exciting and authentic. Not only have they had amazing covers, such as their incredible rendition of “Conspiracy” by Paramore, but the rhythm and heaviness of their original music makes them an even better choice. If you are looking for a heavy, high energy band to check out this year, consider looking into Adore After Dark’s performances and Instagram page for updates!

One of my favorite parts of being a music lover in Bowling Green has been the lively music scene of an otherwise small town. Although Bowling Green may not be the biggest city, the personality and heart of the music scene is always bold and ever-growing.

If you are not only looking for new bands, but venues, locations such as Howard’s Club H, The Hideaway, and Cla-zel Theater are always welcoming musical performances and audiences for a variety of music and events!
