Best Indoor Plants to Gift for the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bowling Green chapter.

If you are here because you are thinking about gifting a friend, family member, partner, or co-worker a plant for the holidays, you are pretty awesome! Well, I am biased because I am in love with plants and nature. The gift of a plant is such a genuine and thoughtful gesture. I can’t wait for you to read about some of the indoor plants I have had, and why I think they would be perfect to give to someone you care about!

Devil’s Ivy

Is your friend, lover, or family member horrible at keeping plants alive? Maybe it was the kinds of plants they bought! Well, Devil’s Ivy is perfect for them. It is so pretty and vines down or up from its base! Also, it is almost impossible to kill and is low mantinence. I water mine maybe once every week, and it has been thriving and growing nicely! This one does best in indirect light, but can survive in low light conditions.

Heart leaf philodendron

Similar to Devil’s Ivy, this viney plant is also almost impossible to kill and aesthetically pleasing next to home decor! The leaves are half the size of the Devil’s Ivy leaves, so if your friend, lover, or family member lacks space in their home, this would be a great addition to add to a well lit bathroom or kitchen. Plus, the leaves themselves exude love and care with their heartshape! How sweet! This plant does well in indirect light or low light. I have had my Heart Leaf Philodendron for almost 2 years and has been moved from apartment to apartment, so trust me when I say, it is pretty easy to take care of!

monstera

Now, if your friend, lover, or family member loves to go with trends and the mainstream, this is definetly the plant for them! The amount of graphic designs and stickers that I have seen of this plant is crazy, but it makes so much sense. The Monstera is so unique with the slits in it’s leaves, and it makes any room look cool and trendy! This plant works best in medium to bright indirect light. It would do great by a window that recieves lots of light. You can buy this plant big or small! I would gift this to someone who wants to put effort into helping it grow. Monsteras love to grow up a stake or stick, if not, it will just grow outwards, and that is fine if your friend lives in a big house.

pilea (ufo plant)

Is that a UFO I see?! No, it is just a Pilea plant! If your friend, lover, or family member loves science or the paranormal, or just likes to think outside of the box, this is a fun plant for them. This plant is one of a kind in the best way! Also, this would be a great plant for anyone that has cats or dogs. This plant is non-toxic to them, which makes it that much better. This plant does best in bright and indirect light, so make sure it is placed by a window, and it will need to be watered whenever the top soil is dry!

So, what are you waiting for?!

Did I convince you yet? I hope these plants make your friend, lover, or family member smile, and I hope it serves as a reminder of you and the love and care you have for them! Happy Plant Holidays!

P.S You can find most of these plants at Indoor Greenhouses or stores like Lowe’s and Homedepot with Garden Centers!
